I love grub hut, I have gone for about 10 years now. Lately they have been going down hill.. I think it has to do with those that are hired. They aren't great at customer service, almost make me feel like I need to apologize for ordering food.. they seem very shy, and anti social which is fine but not in a customer service position.. also I have gone 3 times all around 12 noon and each time was just myself and maybe 2 other cars ( I know this place when its packed) it definitely was far from busy.. and they would not answer their phones... I just wanted to call my order in so I didn't have to deal with feeling uncomfortable/ like a burden when ordering .. and they refuse to answer their phone. I called 3 times both times and again it was me and maybe 2 other customers far from a busy day.. anyways when going in to order I noticed a female in the back cooking all the food... She had her hair all in her face ( bangs) I have noticed her several times back there, and each time NO HAIR NET! if she was bald.. fine. But this woman had hair , all in her face.. I don't think that's following food safety rules at all. No one was wearing gloves, hair nets.. none of it. And I just about gasped. Well what do you know, I got my food and immediately found hair in my food. I didn't even want to complain, I know I should have but I just felt genuinely uncomfortable, the females in their gave me the vibe they would just be rude and kind of gang up / deny it. This was the first time I have came in a bit, and it was disappointing to say the least. They used to have wonderful customer service, and Great food every single time spot on! One lady that used to work there was so attentive and kind and actually look presentable and professional.. I googled it and they are most certainly required to wear a hair net! Especially if they are the cook. I also was wondering if it's normal for the burger to be so pink? They used to look well cooked and now they always appear red or pink... It's interesting. They are usually fast, and good with getting the orders right. If they hired people who cared more about food service, respect, kindness, and work ethic instead of people who just care more about their makeup and hair, and texting that day.. they would be better off certainly. Hair should never be down in food service, bangs especially... Makeup shouldn't be the main concern either , I saw a girl wipe her eyeliner/sweat off her eye wipe it and then proceeded to box food and hand it to a customer. No hands were washed .. ew. wash your hands , wear a hair net.. and a nice hello, welcome in! And have a good day thanks for coming in / a smile.. goes a long way! Hopefully with time, proper food safety, more respectful/ hard workers.. things...
Read moreBest burger so far. I commute daily on the ferry and I have always been meaning to stop in and try the food. So glad I did. I got a Bacon McDouble. This was on the specials board. It came with just the right amount of ingredients, nicely grilled onions, cheddar cheese melted perfectly and crispy bacon in every bite. Burger cooked perfect, fresh crisp pickles and a mayo garlic sauce that was just right. Not to much but, just enough to taste that subtle garlic flavor. The fries were wonderful. I like the fries that come like this and if they were salted or seasoned it was perfect. I only used a bit of ketchup for dipping. Sorry McDonalds of Kingston but, The Grub Hut gets my burger business from now on. I am not sure but, I could swear they were playing what sounded like a bluegrass band doing Tom Petty cover songs. Either way it was pleasant and interesting. Looking forward to trying something off the regular menu. I didn’t really interact with the staff other than placing my order when I first came in. They all seemed friendly enough. The restaurant was clean and I could see the grill and prep area from where I was sitting and they too were clean. Lots of little themed items throughout. This place is not very large but, I was there mid afternoon and there was only 3-4 guests. I have driven by when the parking lot is full. I am sure those are the...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a no frills burger joint, this may not be the place for you. With that said, their burgers and burger selection is amazing! I had one of their specials. A 1/3 burger patty with grilled red onions, basil, avocado, cheese and a balsamic reduction glaze. It was incredible. Something about all those flavors together was a true masterpiece. I can only hope this will become a permanent menu staple. My partner got Uncle Marcos BBQ Burger, which was also incredibly delicious. The burger itself is thick and juicy. Cooked to perfection. The Grub Hut has such a wonderful selection of burgers to choose from. Just choosing which one to devour tends to be a difficult decision - I want to try them all. Along with burgers, they have a very good selection of other foods to try. Everything on the menu sounded sooo good. We came around 4pm, and it was a bit busy. Despite that, service was quick and friendly. You also can’t go wrong with a milkshake. With tons of flavors to choose from, and a delectable selection of burgers and other things - you truly can’t go wrong with dining here. There really is something for everyone. Can’t wait...
