I’m visiting Spokane and if I was to base my experience on this restaurant it would be HORRIBLE!! I have never experienced so much disregard in my life I’m no sure if it’s because I don’t looking like 95% of the people that come into this establishment but tonight( 10/17/24) was horrible.. we walked in it took 5 mins for someone to greet us note we were the only people who was waiting and they weren’t busy! Finally we are sat another 5 mins go by and the server I hate I don’t remember her name came over to take our drink orders, bring our drinks and leave… 5,10, even 15 mins go by at this point we’re looking online for other places because it didn’t seem like we were going to get served. Another waitress comes over and states that she’s going to “help” our server which after we placed our orders our server never came back over or even looked our way! There were other parties that came into the restaurant they were greeted at least 2 seconds after they stepped through the door sat and asked did they need any recommendations or wanted an appetizers, but of course they didn’t look like us! Long story I have NEVER EXPERIENCED RACISM LIKE I DID TONIGHT!! The food was trash we ordered the teriyaki salmon Bento box super flavorless!! And the baked lobster roll add real crab and cream cheese and omg it was mostly cream cheese and a pinch of real crabmeat.. just overall it was an horrible experience we left out of there after spending 118 dollars (98 for the bill and 20 for a tip for the waitress that did help us) hungry and just bluntly disrespected! Why didn’t our server want to help us but was delighted to help people that looked like her.. Were we not a priority of hers? Very disgusting behavior!! Definitely won’t be back and would like to be contacted by the owner of this establishment to resolve...
Read moreThis location used to belong to Wasabi, I remember it being dark. Since Umi has renovated the place, it’s so much brighter and welcoming.
Our server was very nice and attentive.
We started off with sake oyster shooters, poke salad, crab and cheese wonton, house salad, hot tea and hot sake. The sake oyster shooters were good, but I think prefer regular oyster shooters with cocktail sauce and horseradish. The poke salad is amazing, always a must when we go there. The crab and cheese wontons were ok. The dough was too thick so it wasn’t a good crunch. My friend had the house salad , she enjoyed it , she said there was a bit of heat in the dressing.
We ordered the sashimi platter, Spokane roll, crunchy shrimp roll, stuffed pumpkin roll, and one more I forgot the name. The Spokane roll was our favorite. We noticed that many other tables also ordered the same roll. We also ordered the Umi Thai beef, and that was delicious . The beef was so tender.
The beef chow mein, was okay. They beef was very tender , but the noodles seemed like they were spaghetti noodles and the sauce just wasn’t that great for us. It could have been better.
The nigori sake is my favorite sake to enjoy with sushi, always.
We would try again, maybe there are other dishes that...
Read moreWe live up north and have visited a number of other sushi restaurants in the area, one of which was our go to and which closed last year. This was our first visit to Umi after their recent opening. Our server was friendly and prompt in coming to our table and taking our drink and food orders. We ordered a bottle of wine and instead of pouring a small amount to taste, which I have normally seen, she went ahead and filled both glasses. We ordered the grilled Gyoza which were tasty. We also placed our order for the sashimi/nigiri combination asking that she wait awhile so we could finish the appetizer but both came out together. The fish seemed fresh and was comparable to other sushi restaurants. We finished with a California roll which was also tasty. I am guessing they are still working out the kinks with new staff. Overall the service and food were good. I would agree with other reviews the total cost caught me by surprise although a decent portion of the bill was the...
