My family and I live locally and have tried this place a couple times. The food is good. Firstly, I suggest sitting in the back because the ambiance is better. Instead of music playing they have the TV on and my kid just wanted to watch TV haha Second, if your in a hurry it maybe best to go somewhere else. They really take their time with the sushi. Then the bathroom, not much soap, no paper towels, and I had to search and steal toilet paper from the next stall.. now for my very embarrassing experience with my 5 year old daughter. As I already mentioned, if you're in a hurry don't go here. Here's why, the waitress. At 5:10pm we arrived requesting a table for 4. My daughter (5) and I were first to arrive the other 2 were joining as soon as possible. I let the waitress know as she was passing by. 5:30ish she brings us water and asks what we want to drink. In the 20 minutes we had decided what we wanted to drink, to start with, and eat as our meal. I ordered a crab puffs, tuna roll and Godzilla roll, beef fried rice (my daughter's favorite from them) She said it would be awhile on the sushi. I let her know we had to leave at 6:45 because my daughter had her dance recital that night. She just said okay, I'll get it in. The rest of our group arrives at 5:45. 6ish the waitress brings us cold crab puffs and warm steak fried rice. Normally it's steaming. My kid eats like warm so we're good. I'm a little stressed about time because the waitress doesn't get the rest of our parties drink order but puts her finger up and says she'll be back. 6:13 she comes back and gets their drink order (2 beers) and they push to order food. The waitress is annoyed and so am I by this point. Never asked how our food was or if we needed more to drink, my daughter and I finished our drinks. Especially no sorry for the wait at all. They weren't busy! 6:30 I ask her how much longer we can expect and may need to get the remainder of our orders to go. She starts walking away saying it's almost ready. Our rolls were sitting waiting to be cut. And I apologetically expressed that I was now in a hurry. Only for her to respond that she told me it was going to take a long time as she's walking away again in a loud voice. I followed her to the counter and told her I just need my check please. Still in a loud voice she asked if I still wanted our rolls. Our party cancelled and I said I don't care. She charged me, I gave her my card and she disappears in a huff. 5 minutes go by, I see her laughing with staff and holding my card. I tell her to give me my card I need to go and she yells yes ma'am. Somewhere in there I got my to go order bagged up. I'm yelling at this point that this situation is absurd and she's yelling back. Honestly this was a traumatic experience for me and my daughter. I used to wait tables and understand the pressure but this was the worst SHE is the worst!! Noone stepped in and their were maybe 6 staff present. Never ever will I be caught in that...
Read moreFirst time and last time for us. The wife and I were excited to see a new sushi place open up in our neck of the woods so we went to check it out. For starters, the miso soup was quite bland, I don't think there was any dashi in it at all to give it any depth of flavor. Next, the pickled cucumbers arrived which was quite good, but it was a huge pile enough for about 6 people. We also ordered the Gyoza which was another big dissapointment: honestly, even the frozen gyoza from Trader Joe's has more flavor. For entre's, I ordered the regular sushi combo and things really fell apart: While the fish was of average quality, the RICE was really gross. It was a totally glutinous blob of tastless mush with a strange aftertaste that ruined the flavor of the fish. Really, how do you screw up the rice? (BTW 15 years in Japan taught me a few things about rice). Even the nori wrapping on the maki was extra chewy and hard to swallow. My wife ordered the bento box with chicken Katsu and tempura. The Katsu was decent but the tempura did not have any traditional tempura batter on it. Instead, it was just breaded and fried and the asparagas was undercooked and super hard. Her rice was just as tasteless and the salad while being edible did not inspire. Lastly, the wait staff abandoned us after taking our orders. Not once did anyone come by to check on us. My wife finally had to get up and ask the person behind the counter for our check and a togo box. As such, we came away totally disappointed. For the prices charged, this place has to really step...
Read morePlaced a decent ($65 plus I flipped them a $20 bill for a tip) sized order online and it was accepted at 830 with a ready time of 905. Sure, slightly after close, but they accepted the order.
Showed up at 855 and they hadn’t even started my order. The sushi rollers were obviously irritated; but again, they accepted the order.
Around 905 a gentleman came over to let me know that I was lucky they were nice, because it was after 9pm and they should be closed.
You accepted the order… I wanna just chalk that little comment up to a language barrier and think about trying this place again.
That said, it will be likely be awhile before I’m willing. I know they haven’t been open that long, but to call yourself a “lounge” and then have a bunch of trash piled up behind your bar?
And seriously… your dishwasher never taking his gloves off? I watched that dude load clean dishes into a dirty bus tub and then unpack those clean dishes with the same dirty gloves he used to wash them. That made me definitely glad that I got our order to go.
When I finally got home with our order, I would say that we were pretty disappointed in both the quality and the preparation. For $85+ you’d think we could at least get some fresh fish with wasabi and ginger. The maguro was definitely not fresh and it was obvious it’s that cheap stuff they add coloring to.
I was really hoping we’d finally see some decent sushi east of 192, but sadly Asaka does not seem to be the answer.
Go west for good sushi. Because you won’t find any east...
