Red Apple Café — Restaurant in Watsonville

I've been going to the Red Apple Cafe for years. Today was a very different experience we've ever had. You can expect a wait for a table but it's worth the wait. Today however we decided to sit at the counter. The Staff was very attentive as usual, taking our drink and order fast. Our food was also good as usual. However in the middle of our meal. The owner seemed to be upset about an issue they were having with a charge, and to our suprise he decided to discipline a group of wait staff in the open for all to hear. It was very uncomfortable to hear and also very awkward as we were sitting so close, some of the employees stood right in front of us as we ate and they got yelled at. This left a bad taste in our mouths. You always see the staff working hard and having great customer service. The owner should be ashamed of his behavior towards his team. I am rating this review as a 2 in reflection of the owner. I would rate the food and service as a 4. My recommendation, wait for a table, do not sit at...

I went today for lunch, as my mom and I went there last month for breakfast and it was delicious. I ordered the half sandwich and soup. My mom ordered a bowl of soup. Both our soups were brought out cold. I had to ask them to be warned up. My bread on my half sandwich was not even toasted. It look like they literally just slapped two cold sourdough bread in between turkey and lettuce and tomato. I didn't want to complain about that as I already complained about the soup not being hot. Fast forward to when it was time to go. I ordered an iced tea and ask for a cup to go. When the waitress came back with my cup to go cup she said "We have to charge $0.25 for the cup to go". I said okay. I then looked at the bill they charged me $3.50 for iced tea Plus $0.25 for the to-go cup. I didn't want to argue, I just will NOT be returning to the restaurant. I placed an order over the phone for pickup. The young lady taking the order got the order wrong. She charged me for adult meals for my children when I specifically stated kids meals. As I discussing the issue with the young lady at the register, The owner says we can just take some out of her food and then charge her for the lower price. Absolutely disgusting. Terrible business practice. She should have given me the food already made at the lower price, or remake my order. Instead she just kept insisting that she take out food because it was just a large order and that her employees would love that because they like to eat the food when mistakes are made.
