The Red Apple Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Wausau

My girlfriend and I went here for the cozy diner experience and walked away with one of the best meals we had ever had

She had their special Apple Chicken Strips with mashed potatoes and fries. She said the chicken was "the best she's ever had" the mashed potatoes were nice and creamy, and the fries were delicious and fresh

I had the shrimp basket, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese and a cup of potato soup. The soup was delicious, the mashed potatoes were great, the shrimp was perfect.

The service was out of this world, the friendly old man who served us really made me feel like I was visiting my favorite relative to say hello. Sweet as a button that man was. The interior is adorable and I love the cozy feeling.

My only gripe (and it's a very small one) is some music and doors to the kitchen would really make this place a gem cut above the rest

Horrible. Absolutely worst eating experience I've had. Nothing in my order was made properly, my fiance ordered a med rare sirloin and got a well done. I ordered a med ribeye and got a well done sirloin. He ordered over easy eggs and got scrambled, I ordered fried and got over easy, we got 3 boxes of toast and eggs that we didn't even order, we didn't even get the raisin toast we ordered, the boxes were covered in the liquid from the steaks, and when we tried to call the restaurant, their message box was full and in the end we only got a refund on the steaks. The food I had was good and reasonably priced, however the menu has a 'timeless America' feel, by which I mean it both had few to no vegetarian or vegan options and was very greasy.

There was a large table of regulars arguing behind us, which lent atmosphere but which I could tell also bothered my father, who has hearing aids. There are also gambling machines here, and while they are not loud, they are bright and distracting, and located right next to the food areas on the way to the bathroom. Almost feels like...
