The park is very pretty. Squirrels were nice to watch. We stayed 12 nights in the park while visiting family. While i initially thought the nightly fee was a great deal, after dealing with the bathrooms for close to 2 weeks i will pay more to camp elsewhere next year. While there was a major storm that came through and damaged multiple trees the bathrooms were not properly maintained. One weekend they had an employ come in for a deep clean on a Sunday due to do many bathroom complaints. Bottom line... park is beautiful but the showers for the campground are terrible. Filthy restrooms both before and after a storm. Update: I was sent a survey from the Marathon County Park. It has a 500-character limit. They obviously don't want to know how they really are doing. So, I am copying and pasting here. Also, I am decreasing to 2 stars as I emailed to inform, I was vacating my site a day early. No return communication or refund for unused day. Hope they bought cleaner with the money. Review to park: My stay overall left a lot to be desired. I stayed a total of 12 days in the park. During the first part of my stay, in the women's restroom, I observed used soap on the holder, a used disposable razor cap, hair ball, spiders web and dead bug in the shower stall. This stayed like this for over a week until a deep clean was performed on a Sunday. I had called and left a message outlining the filthy state of the restrooms and requested the cleaning schedule as I had not seen anything cleaned in over a week. I called on Saturday, received a return call on Tuesday with a voicemail informing of the routine cleaning schedule (which wasn't happening) and citing the recent storm and diverting employee resources to clean up. Over a week after the storm upon our leaving the debris was still everywhere and the bathrooms hadn't been cleaned since the deep clean. I also sent an email during my stay to inform I would be vacating my site a day early. This communication was never returned and my money for that night was never refunded. I cannot help but think the restrooms are deliberately kept nasty to encourage patrons to utilize their trailers. This increases dump station revenue. For what is advertised (campsite, clean restrooms), versus what you get I feel I was over charged. I can only hope the one-night fee I was never refunded was used for cleaning supplies for the restrooms. The men's restroom did not even have a door handle. As a mother with a 9-year-old son this isn't secure. The park goers would drive through the fee site to gawk at us campers. Overall, it is not an experience anyone in my family wants to do again. This campground was highly recommended by our local family. We took them on a tour of the still uncleaned bathrooms and storm debris. We all agree after one night of tent camping at Council Grounds that the Marathon County Campground is just dirty and not worth the price. My local family states they will use Council Grounds now instead of your sites. For the same amount of money, the difference is clear. I feel cheated that I paid so much to receive no decent accommodations. Next year I will be paying more to stay at what I hope will be a clean reputable campsite at another park. We camp almost exclusively in state parks down South. I've seen nasty bathrooms at campgrounds. I have never seen bathrooms go over a week without being cleaned. Those nasty bathrooms are cleaned and kept clean after multiple complaints. FYI - replacing toilet paper and spraying water in the floor isn't cleaning. I am aware that another set of campers from Texas came in to stay the night and called for a refund after the woman used the restrooms and saw how filthy they were. I question why I am even bothering with this review. It took days to receive a return voicemail blowing smoke and lying about a non-existent cleaning schedule and I never received a return communication about vacating...
Read moreStayed at the campground for two weekday nights. The structures were worn down, picnic tables with rotting wood, buildings with rotting roofs, recycling bin overflowing onto the ground. Being part of a park, it had non-campground visitors including homeless walking through the campsites. I was worried about the nearby rail-lines being a source of noise, but they were the least of the problems. The nearby day park was visited with groups that played their car stereos VERY loud, both days. Another camper had five small dogs that yelped all the time, day and night. He solved the night issues on the second night but they continued to yelp during the day. Obluvious to the noise. Watched as one of his dogs was off leash and attacked another campers dog. Didn't understand why they had not "managed" the camper since we did speak with the host and they knew about the problem. Our neighbor just left, maybe we...
