This is difficult and unfortunate for me to post because pops has been around for awhile, And I quite enjoyed their food when they were relatively new on the scene. I'd like to start out with the positives, I placed my order over the phone and went to pick it up. There was a long line of people waiting to place their order at the counter, and there was no pickup station. However a young lady offered to take my card to pay for the order and brought my food out to me which was very nice. The interior is well decorated with a comfortable feel.
Now for the unfortunate.
I placed an order for a Philly cheesesteak, and a double meat burger with two slices of cheese, with bacon and barbecue sauce and grilled onions. I made it a combo so it came with fries and a drink, and also ordered a side of onion rings for my wife to go with her Philly, and she was really looking forward to them. Upon bringing the food home, my disappointment started when I took the items out of the bag. The fries and onion rings were at the very bottom of the bag and both had become limp and soggy. The onion rings were more like onion straws and were a mushy mess, The fries also were limp and soggy and had zero seasoning. I immediately put them into my air fryer, and gave my wife her sandwich while I started into my burger.
Both of my patties were dry, and crisp around the edges. I had asked for two slices of cheese and either only received one, forgot two of the smallest pieces of cheese right on top of each other. For my bacon I only received one slice, which was very disappointing. The bacon itself was good, but paying for bacon on a burger and only getting one slice was disappointing, when the industry standard is two. If it's their policy to pay by the slice, then it is overpriced, but I'm sure it meant to have two. If that is their policy, then it would be nice to be able to look that up online, but for reasons that avail me, as long as they have been around, they have no dedicated website at all, so I had to figure out what I wanted by zooming in on pictures of the menu from Google. They have a Facebook page, but the pictures of their menu are very out of date so I didn't trust it.
The barbecue sauce, while a good flavor, would have been sparse for a single patty, let alone a double meat, and since the Patty's were already dry, I had to put mustard on it so that I didn't feel like I was biting into sand. My wife's Philly was good, and I'm sure if it was called Pop's Philly Stand, this would have been fine. In the end. I paid over $30 for a bag of mostly disappointment. It was not long after I placed my order from the time I picked it up either, a total of approximately 25 minutes, after being quoted 15 minutes until my order was ready, so it was not as if the food had been sitting out a long time. I know that pops has a lot of loyal customers, and I am glad for that because I support small business, and one this establishment to be around for a long time, but if tonight's experience is indicative of the direction they are going, then I unfortunately believe they have an...
Read moreDriving between Dallas and Austin, definitely the place to stop for food..
I hate to change my review but driving back from Dallas today we stopped in to get so food. We stop in a few times a year traveling to Dallas. This time my wife saw that they have Root Beer, and so when ordering the food I asked for 2 sodas. What I didn't know was I needed to order 1 soda and 1 Root Beer. When I went to the soda fountain I realized my mistake. I asked about the Root beer and was told that is wasn't a soda. That was not an issues, Totally get that they need a little more money. It home made. So I say cool what is the difference in price. I was already looking at the menu and it was like $0.20 more. I pulled two quarters out to pay and the lady said no I needed to buy the whole Root Beer. I said but I paid for a soda and the cup was still empty. You would think costumer service would say "ya you haven't put any soda in the cup, you got cash there's No credit card fee to pay. Let get you the drink." Nope the lady doubled down and said you have to pay another $2.49 +tax. I know it just sounds silly to fight about but I feel like after paying $40 for the meal and $2 more for the ranch I forgot to buy. Your going to stand you ground on something so easy to fix. Any business owner I think would look at that a say no lets just make it right. My wife said I should have asked for a refund on the unused soda. So I paid the 2.50. And because I didn't order the drink right I now have 2 sodas for myself and a root beer for my wife.
I asked the lady is it going to be worth it?
I guess the Root Beer is just something you better order right or you'll pay twice. Costumer service is something that the business does to stand out, makes you think ya I want to go back. Or they got your back and they are willing to make a mistake right. I didn't expect to get something for free or one up the system. I just wanted to pay for 1 drink for me and 1 for my wife.
If you stop in make sure your order is right...
Read moreI have a simple burger order every time I'm here, the same one for years: burger, double American cheese, plain and dry, add tomato. The cashier entered it wrong in their system and it arrived with every thing but tomato so I sent it back while the expediter argued with me. It was immediately returned to me, obviously scraped, so I returned it again. Once again it was returned too quickly, with extra cheese which hid the lettuce and onion...the same scraped burger. Husband went in and stated that this needed to be made right. A few minutes later another employee brought it back and literally threw it at me. Patrons at other tables asked if that just happened. My husband's response to the young man was "really?", And the response he got was "yeah, so what?" I'm pretty easy going and was going to let it slide until I lifted the bun and saw more onions on it, so I went in and told the cashier that I just wanted my money back. The patron currently at the cash register told me he had a complaint too (he had witnessed the tossing of the burger) and said he felt his issue would not be resolved either. The cashier (manager on duty? She has been there multiple times when we have patronized the place before) then proceeded to point her finger in my face and yell that my husband had come in screaming at the staff, which is so not his style, gave me my money back, and told me we were welcome to never return. I'm sad because this had been my favorite burger place in town; we're there 6 times a month, bring visitors whenever they're in town. But to literally be thrown out, I can't even fathom. I've worked many restaurants over the years, and have never left a bad review for any business, but I'm really hangry over this whole situation. I know the service industry has it tough right now, so I will take my money and easy order elsewhere. (Side note: the couple sitting next to us offered me their salad, which I...
