This place is 5 stars for waycross. The decor is obviously homemade, but it's clean and nice. We're from a large city and we've lived here for almost 4 years. We have had to travel to large cities just to get salsa that isn't bland because nothing in waycross is any good. The Mexican trailer is good for more authentic Mexican tacos, but this place will make them for you, and the make their salsa FRESH at the table and it's AMAZING!! THE BEST SALSA I'VE EVER HAD! The quantities change depend on who makes it for you and the flavor will vary as well. We had a family of 5 and had less than the table of 2 across from us. As much as i love the salsa, I would be happy if they made it in back in large quantities and gave a little more at the table. The tortillas are made from scratch and to order.... all of the food is. Beware because the "corn" tortillas are amazing... because they have gluten in them. We've been here 4 times since they opened.
Opening night was a mess so we left. They've had staffing issues with covid. We noticed that we weren't acknowledged waiting in the foyer one of the times we went, but since they have upped their game. Our first server was great, but I don't think the staff is knowledgeable about ingredients in the food because when I warned him of my gluten intolerance he gave me the corn tortillas. I knew from the smell, taste, and texture that they were too good to be true.
One of the servers is the daughter of the owner and cook and she went above and beyond to find out what was in the corn tortillas and to ask if I could get them made without gluten in them.... which they will do if you call and ask about 20 minutes ahead of walking in. I'm planning on ordering them togo to use at home. I don't think this place, or any other in town, would be good for anyone with celiac or food allergies... if you want to attempt it with food intolerances I would go during non peak hours so they have time to accommodate.
I will say that some of the food is more tex mex, and they have some interesting things most small town people aren't used to seeing, but they will accommodate and the SALSA is so worth it. Mexican trailer was our go to place in waycross, but it has become run down, dirty, and service is never great. We probably won't go back to Mexican trailer. The prices are comparable to what one would pay for quality, to order, from scratch food. We don't mind paying more for better food, cleaner and nicer environment, and...
Read moreThought we'd try something new for date night (2/12/22) instead of our usual spots - and this place was recommended to me ... We definitely will NOT be going back ... literally EVERYTHING took forever from the time we got there to be seated in a more than half empty restaurant all the way to getting our check to leave. There was no line, nobody waiting to get seated and it still took almost 10 minutes to get seated. Then it took forever to get our salsa to go with our chips. The salsa definitely wasn't good, even though it was made right there at the table ... The white cheese (queso blanco) dip was super runny. My food was plated well and tasted good. He didn't get his rice that he requested. The couple that was leaving warned us at the door that it was bad service ... We should've listened. A couple came in and were seated but after nobody went to talk to them after 10 minutes, they got up and left without even ordering drinks yet. My bf kept saying maybe they were having a bad night ... I'm sure that this wasn't the case. Yeah, I understand short staffing ... But this was way more than just short staffing. Our waitress, I'm sure she meant well, but every time she came to our table, she'd stay and talk for 5 minutes ... She literally talked more than we did the entire almost 2 hours we were there (yeah ... I'm telling you it was super slow service) ... He didn't care for the salsa, cheese or rice ... Oh ... And did I mention this same meal would've cost $30 at Rodeo right down the street and would've tasted better?!?! The bill was $49 and some change for subpar food and even worse-slow service. Minus his rice - the picture shows our food ... And we both only...
Read moreTonight, I decided to visit El Santo Coyote Mexican Restaraunt for dinner in Waycross, GA. It was the restaraunt's second day open, so, they were still working through some opening week "hiccups". The wait time to be seated was a bit long, but the meal was worth the wait. I ordered the Guacomole dip as an appetizer and it was fresh and fantastic. Of course, the drinks were flowing plentifully...i sipped on a strawberry margarita that was very good! I definitely recommend trying it. For my entree, I selected the California Burrito. It was very flavorful and filling...I couldn't eat it all!!
The atmosphere inside the restaraunt was very festive and lively with modern mexican music, and the furnishings inside were very chic and stylish. Overall, it was a good experience and my server was attentive and kept my beverage refreshed. However, I would recommend calling ahead for a reservation. Lastly, I stopped by the men's restroom on my way out. The furnishings were nice but it was clear they had a busy night, as the restroom needed a little attention. Everything else in the restaraunt appeared very clean, and the in house bakery looked great and inviting. I recommend visiting this restaraunt for a good and authentic...
