Sometimes great sometimes not just depends on the day. Today was very busy but it was well facilitated service was fast and friendly food was tasty and hot. Go back a week later in the evening at 730, stand at the hostess stand and wait for around 5 minutes nobody stops, the older gentleman managing walks past us twice and doesn't even acknowledge that we have been standing there, stop a waitress who's walked by 3 timed now and asked if someone can seat us. She replies yes but I don't know where she is and starts to walk away at this time the host stops and says I'm sorry I was helping to clear some tables and assisted in seating us. Approx 7 minutes go by and the same waitress we stopped and asked to be seat comes over and takes our drink orders. 10 minutes later she returns and goes into a story about how there was no sweet tea and she had to make some, also failed to bring my son out a drink as well (3 of us had sweet tea & 1 had root beer.) Place our order and ask for the fries with my wife's lemon pepper rainbow trout to be on a side plate rather than on the plate with the fish so that they aren't soaked in fish & butter she said she would take care of it but that's how she would have made the order. When our order comes out she brought the order as requested but had 1 fry sitting on the middle of the fish and giggled saying that someone must have spited the request. Drinks were hard to get refilled, fries were luke warm and the same manager who was walking around "looking lost" has now lapped by our table about 3 times with 3 cups on the end of the table empty and 2 adults sitting there looking around for a waitress. Requested refills from our waitress that we never get, shortly later she stops by and says I'm just going to leave the check here at which time we ask about our drink refills and she says I'll be right back. Another 5 minutes go by she returns with a pitcher to refill our cups and dumps mostly ice in the cups and walks away with no more conversation. This place is just like a roller coaster sometimes the food and service is great but others it's terrible and we wonder why we gave it another shot. The problems seem to happen more in the evening hours around 7. Update 12/20/20 - got our food before our drinks. Mac N Cheese for my son was cold. He also asked for 2 strips below is a picture of the...
Read moreTwo of the three persons in our party ordered meatloaf.. After our food was delivered they cut into it only to find raw red bloody hamburger meat. We couldn't get any of the wait staffs attention and several passed us by. When we finally got someones attention we asked for the manager. The person who introduced herself as the manager had an attitude when she approached our table.. When we explain our issue the "manager" Informed us that SHE CAN NOT CONTROL WHAT COMES OUT OF THE KITCHEN.. (we are senior citizens) and after making the haulty statement swinging her head from side to side she then said THATS SLIGHTLY PINK.. which with this "manager" continued to be rude and said EAT IT. That statement was answered with me telling her to sit down and eat it then.. she rolled her eyes walked away saying do you want something else to eat or the item taken off your ticket.. -- After she walked away from the table our server came to us and asked how things were and I asked for her managers name. The server said her name is Hannah. I then asked about her last name and was told I don't know. -- so the staff doesn't even know who their manager was. There were other customers sitting around us.. when we got our ticket we were charged for my meal which I couldn't sit and eat infront of my friends. We were also charged for our drinks 2 tea's and an soda. -- Why are customers be offer reward points.. is it because this is the treatment we are receiving? We all live in the Abingdon Va area.. we eat at cracker barrel often and are never treated...
Read moreWhenever we're on the road, Cracker Barrel is our family's first choice — hands down. We've tried all the typical chains over the years - Cracker Barrel stands out every single time. There's something about the experience that goes beyond just the food. It's familiar, cozy, and consistently welcoming no matter what state we're in.
We love starting the day there. The pancakes are golden, crisp around the edges, and full of flavor — not the bland, syrup-dependent kind you sometimes get elsewhere. The eggs are always cooked the way we like, the bacon's just right, and that hash brown casserole? Easily the best comfort side on any breakfast menu. My kids look forward to the biscuits and gravy, and my wife always ends up grabbing a coffee and browsing the country store while we wait for the food. It's become part of our road trip rhythm — stretch our legs, grab a great meal, and reset for the next leg of the drive.
What I also appreciate is how every Cracker Barrel location, whether it’s in Virginia, or Texas, keeps a level of consistency that’s rare these days. The servers are friendly, the food comes out hot, and the atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve stepped into someone’s home. It’s never just a quick stop — it’s a break that feels like a breather from the road.
In a world full of fast food and rushed service, Cracker Barrel still delivers an experience that’s slower, more thoughtful, and full of character. For our family, it's not just a place to eat — it’s a travel tradition. We wouldn't trade it for...
