As soon as we walked in, we knew this place is unique. It almost seems like it was a home decor shop with a few tables for restaurant. The place is very nicely done. It obviously is a place for locals to hang out in. We arrived around 11:30 on a Tuesday and the place is already half full and soon after, it was full. Full of what seems to be locals where everyone knew each other and all were having a good time just hanging out, talking, and having lunch.
The prices are very reasonable. The food is pretty good. The portions are on the small side but that is a good thing for me -- it forces me to eat less. We all had the 1/2 sandwich with a side combo. That is really enough but the portion size is small compared to other places... but... I think that is a good thing.
The food tasted fine. Nothing to disappoint but nothing to say it's the best in the world. It just hits the right spot.
True to its more relaxed pace, the service is a bit slow. However, if you are hanging out and just having a good time socializing, the slower pace of service is OK. Just don't be in a hurry to eat and get...
Read moreStopped in after leaving Shenandoah and had an excellent meal with great service (thank you Doris B!) Tomato basil soup was delicious as were the sandwiches (which currently average around $12 and come with a side). We had The Tribeca, which had nice cuts of thick turkey and fresh tasting spinach and cucumber, and The Granny, chopped corned beef and melted pimento cheese on rye. Per Doris's wise recommendation lunch was topped off with the perfectly spiced apple cobbler, which was served piping hot with vanilla ice cream. All in, our meal totaled around $55 for 2 coffees, 2 soup and sandwiches, and 1 dessert (note that there is a small credit card processing fee). The dining area is filled with antique furniture and art including a medley of vintage plateware used for meal service, which gives the space a cozy, unique atmosphere. Lunch time seems to fill up quickly so be sure to make a reservation or arrive just after they reopen at...
Read moreFirst, I chaulked up the fact that 4 employees looked at me and kept walking, but didn't offer help, was due to the end of lunch. After a 7 minute wait at the counter, I was finally helped. A lunch takeout order of $10.50 on the menu ended up as $14 due to a "takeout fee" to cover one plastic container and a plastic fork.
Half my fruit as a side was soggy and inedible. Several blueberries were crushed. One piece of pineapple, cantaloupe, and melon each.
The potato salad was bland and tasteless. At least the chicken salad was redeemable.
If you sit and eat, you're treated very differently. I did not since I had been hiking and wanted to eat outdoors. Also, the ridiculous high free for a takeout container will keep me from coming back , along with the...
