Previously rated this establishment as 5 stars but just had a terrible service experience that left me wondering if I'll ever go back again.
We came in at 7:40, which is 20 minutes before closing (by the way, 8 is WAY too early to close, especially Friday and Saturday evening) and the guy working the counter glanced at us when we walked in and did not greet us. He was playing with a phone. I attempted to ask for his opinion about a menu item and he made a smart-ass comment in return. He made it very clear that they were closing soon by working it into every part of our interaction. He then made an inappropriate comment about my age when I gave him my ID after ordering a beer.
At 5 minutes to close, he turned off lights right above us. He offered us some iced tea that he was going to toss out, which was a nice gesture, however I didn't hear him and when he repeated it he said it loudly and slowly in an extremely condescending tone: "I WAS OFFERING YOU TEA."
We left 10 minutes later in quite a rush due to the strong signals from this staff member to get the h&#$ out.
Super weird, unpleasant experience. That staff member sorely needs some customer service skills training. It's a shame because this has always been one of our...
Read moreI got spoiled growing up in DC with Hamburger Hamlet all over town. Sadly, they are long gone (and so am I), but happily, there is something even better right here in WNC. Church Street Depot has the best burgers I've ever eaten, hands down. Cooked to order, excellent meat (especially the special blend) on a buttery toasty bun that pairs perfectly with the juicy beef. They cook the fries until they are perfectly crisp - not the soggy, greasy fries you get at the beach. Shakes are so thick, it takes extra long to mix them. The staff is amazing. They see us coming, and our food is already on the grill before we even finish placing our order, and if we accidentally forget to ask for our usual fixings, they come out from the kitchen to make sure they're getting it right! They are like family. Don't expect bargain prices, because this isn't bargain food. It's hand-crafted...
Read moreThis is my husband and I’s regular stop when we want to eat out. When I want a burger, I go here. If I don’t, I still want a burger again because Church Street has the best burgers. Cooked perfectly, still juicy, the buns are crisped just a bit on the flat edges making for an even better burger.
Being able to build your own burger is an absolute treat no matter what you’re in the mood for. My favorite burger is the choice of the special blend burger, which has brisket with either blue cheese crumbles and Texas Pete hot sauce, or their homemade pimento cheese, which is mouth-watering good! Their seasoned fries are the best as well.
The employees are wonderful as well. Always friendly, upbeat and on top of things. It’s a place where you feel like family and know your visit and meal will...
