I’ve been here many times. The food is very bland. However, it does look nice inside. Tried to go out with some friends last night, one of their birthdays. One of our party members is Type 1 diabetic and his blood sugar was declining… so we decided the 5/7 of us who were there already would go in an get a table and order. The other 2 we’re about 10 minutes away and we’re happy to order later when they arrived. The host was very rude and refused to sit us, even after we explained the situation. Told us to let them know when everyone was there. So once the other two arrived, one of our party members told him we were all there. He yelled at her and told her to calm down, even though she wasn’t being loud or rude at all. I stepped in to explain once again that the only reason we had asked was because 5/7 of us were ready to order and one needed to sit down for medical reasons and also needed to eat soon. The host began yelling at me and other members of our party.. so I replied.. “okay, whatever, I don’t care”… he clearly didnt understand why it was so urgent.…I was turning to my friends to see if they’d care to go elsewhere… there’s a small hole in the wall Mexican restaurant up the hill that has much better quality food… . Before I could suggest this, he began yelling belligerently again and told us to leave. My friends were stunned because no one in our group had been rude to this man or anyone else there. We left and went up the hill to El Chapala where we were seated in the order guests arrived, no wait, even though a couple were still driving over… and the food was amazing as usual. We were able to order appetizers while our friends all made their way in and had a lovely evening El Chapala. The hosts and servers at El Chapala were so kind and helpful… and my friends who hadn’t been there before agreed the food was much more flavorful and more than happy to go there instead...
Read moreUpdate: we decided to return and there have been great improvements. Staff is much better, restaurant is much cleaner. We have been twice and the improvements are consistent.
We have been to La Carreta 3 times now. We just moved here in July and love a good, local Mexican restaurant to visit regularly. The first time we visited was right after the hurricane and it was busy so we understood the lack of service and the host being a little rude. He told us we had to go get cash so we did, to end up paying with our card when we left….strange. The other times we have been have continued to be worse not better. The salsa is not great. Which is a disappointment. Chips are meh…. The hot sauce bottles they bring to the table are dirty and have crust at the pour spout. The food was good the first time but has been just ok the other two times.
The real problem is the service, or lack there of. The host is very rude, does not invite a welcome atmosphere and seems rather bothered by your visit to the restaurant. When he seats you, he drops the menus on the table, points and says “Here!” (I watched this happen to multiple tables while we were there on our last visit)
The servers are slow, don’t engage or treat you well. I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 30 years and owned a restaurant for 13 years. I’m open to “off nights” and one off bad experiences (especially during difficult times). However, now I see it’s a pattern of bad behavior and general lack of caring for their guests. They need some serious new management to guide that place to where it could be.
We will find our Mexican fix elsewhere moving forward. I recommend you...
Read moreI have eaten at this place numerous times as I work nearby. The food is just okay, but it was convenient. After my experience today, I will never return. When I was paying for 4 meals (equalling nearly $75 at lunch), I requested to have my itemized receipt for business purposes. The tall, slim guy at the register told me he had thrown it away. I politely asked him if he could print it again or get it for me, he said no, told me I should have told him sooner, and that I'd have to come behind the register to dig it out of the trash if I wanted it. I asked him if I understood correctly, and he stated, "Yes, that's what I said. Come dig it out if you want it." I did have to dig my receipt out of the trash while he laughed at me. When I asked to speak to the manager, he told me he was the manager at that time, stuck his hand ✋️ in my face, and said "bye, bye" as he was shewing me away. I have never in my life been treated with utter disrespect for no apparent reason. This young man could have easily been kind and offered polite customer service, but chose to treat a normal request with unprovoked rudeness. I truly have no words for how inappropriate and appalling this situation was. If you want an extremely average meal and to be treated like an inconvenience, this is the place for you. If you are looking for seriously awesome Mexican food with great service, take the time to go a few miles down the road to El Que Pasa...
