For starters — the location is insanely beautiful. It was just amazing to watch the sunset in the reflection of skyscrapers, with skyscraper lights taking over the city, pushing limits of engineering and design imagination to their limit. After a day of visiting different towns in New Jersey and doing lots of walking — it seemed like a perfect place to dine before we head back home.
Overall summary, go for the drinks and the view. I won’t be returning to have dinner here.
water glasses have soap or rinse residue that I had to wipe off (wine glasses were flawlessly clean)
Menu booklets are frail and falling apart with little threads tickling your fingers. The inserts are splattered and stained in both of the food menus we got (outdated price was pointed to us at the time of us placing the order)
leather chairs are showing some signs of wear (pieces of leather missing, cracks)
the Red Snapper for Two and grilled Calamari from the menu arrived over-salted, crab cake was a 3 out of 5, texture and taste were t up to our expectations for the price
wine tasting was a challenge for the staff. we were one of 7 tables when we walked into the main room, with the capacity of 30 tables, so it wasn’t too busy for them. We asked for 2 wines to taste and that seemed like a surprise to our waiter. Then when we turned one of them away, he always surprised again, as if we had to take it, haha. I ordered a glass of Riesling and my companion got herself a fancy Azul Clase drink, which was phenomenal I must say. But then they brought out the wrong wine and asked us which glass they should pour it into out of the two. This got me a bit puzzled, bring a fresh glass and pour the wine. We had to find the proper glass by smelling the glasses again… it was a bit of an awkward moment. It took 25-30 minutes and two members of staff to do this. It was enough for kitchen to shell out hot appetizers at the same time as we got our drinks.
Hot Appetizers arrived ahead of the fresh oysters
men’s bathroom floor had puddle in front of the urinal, with cheapest soap and stuck pump on their soap bottle. (Hand napkins were really great, though)
Finally, as for the view. The windows in the main dining room were dirty with salty splatters all over them like a camouflage. Not just at the bottom, where water is, but all the way up. So some of the pictures show those splatters, but it’s mostly hard on the eye, my 3 cameras on the phone doesn’t care 😉 but there was no storm or a hurricane for at least a week prior to that day. Those windows are over water, I understand it’s hard to wash them.
Overall, we spent a bit short of $500 for the two of us. It didn’t feel like a fancy place at all. It may have been a gem when it was properly managed, but it has seen better days, and I am super hopeful that not will see better days ahead of it. Gem...
Read moreRating here a solid 4.6 with room for improvement. Came here to celebrate a birthday. Made dinner reservations but arrived late. They were accommodating. We were seated by the window and enjoyed the nighttime view of the water and NYC which was lovely. We weren't super hungry so we decided on appetizers and drinks. We ordered (2) Greek salad ($44), crab cake ($26), filet mignon souvlaki ($28), hummus and crudite ($16), Baika caviar ($80), lobster ($56), and several drinks. Our bill was roughly over $400, with a 20% tip included.
At first glance, the place is beautifully located right above the water. Went with family to enjoy the view and food. Everything was delicious and fresh. The Greek salad however, we thought would have had lettuce, it's mostly tomatoes. The vinaigrette was tasty, not too oily. The only thing we would order less of. My mom loved the filet mignon, it was tender and juicy. Crab cake could have had more lumps of crab and fewer fillers, but also tasty. Hummus was yummy and creamy. Had a nice acidity.
OK, so I've never had caviar and wanted to splurge - as if it was my birthday.. lol it wasn't. 🙃 As a first timer, it was delicious. It's like sea salt brined soft tapioca pearls. If that could give you an idea. What made it fun to eat was the toppings. It came with blinis (mini fluffy pancakes), crème fraîche (not so sour, sour cream), red onions or shallots, crumbled egg whites, boiled egg yolks, and chives. The combination is divine. But honestly, could it be the hype of it all. Well, we felt fancy eating it! 😆
The other star of the show was that lobster fettuccine. We decided last minute to share a plate. Oh my! The sauciness in the pasta, rich tomato flavors, and huge lumps of lobster meat. I mean this was scrumptious. My mom especially loved it.
We wrapped it up with a honey cake slice for the birthday girl. The only downside to that dessert was, per the menu, it is to be served with a cream but got grapes instead.. 🤷🏾♀️ That said, it was a creamy, lightly sweetened cake. Reminded me somehow of the chocolate almond cake I love so much from IKEA, but I digress. 😊
Overall, it was a nice dining experience. Loved the mixed crowd here. It was welcoming and not too pretentious. Some small setbacks were that our waiter wasn't so attentive to the point where we had to get the attention of other waiters for help. He did however have time to chit chat with other fellas at the bar. And lastly, advising the hostess that we had a birthday, she made note of it on their system, but no acknowledgement of the birthday occurred. Totally brought down the points for me. But the staff were generally friendly.
Management, I don't necessarily have feedback. I'll blame it on a busy night. I would return here for brunch, or...
Read moreWent here the day after valentine’s day for dinner, which we had reserved weeks in advance. Upon entering, the ambiance seemed beautiful, however, we were brought upstairs to the 2nd level, where it was dark, dingy, cold, and no where near as nice as the 1st floor. No problem, I figured they were packed for valentine’s day. After being seated, our waitress came and asked us about water choice, but had absolutely no personality. Didn’t ask us how we were, nor did she introduce herself. We figured she was busy for the holiday. 10 minutes later she takes our drink order. 20 minutes later we get our drinks, and are annoyed at how long everything is taking. When our drinks come, she takes our order. Another 30 minutes, and only 1 of the 2 appetizers we order arrive. Another 20 minutes later, we are fed up, and people around us that arrived after us are getting their food. We start realizing that the tables around us are also getting the wrong dishes. Servers are constantly being told “That’s not our food”, and then they are flustered trying to figure out what table the food belongs to. After seeing others complain, we knew we had to leave. At this point, we it was 7:15 and we arrived at 6pm. An hour and 15 minutes for one appetizer and a glass of wine was horrible service, along with no concern for the delays. Next time we saw the waitress, I said we’re leaving, and will pay for the 1 appetizer and drinks we had. She just said okay, and went to get the bill. When she returned she explained she spoke to the manager and they weren’t going to charge us for anything, but if we’d like, they will be sure to get our meal out in 20 minutes or so. I said no thank you, we’re ready to leave, and we left. Will not be returning here - the manager in a suit witnessed all of these events and seemed very calm, not concerned, and didn’t bother to even come speak to us, or any of the other customers having bad...
