THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTING: I almost never write reviews unless they’re glowing to recognize an outstanding experience that people should really know about or as is unfortunately the case here, a very subpar experience to let people know something’s wrong in hopes it gets fixed and if not at least alert folks so they don’t have to waste their hard-earned money on a poor experience very different from the higher expectation.
This was to be a nice birthday dinner with my girlfriend who was continuing the tradition of my mother, who recently passed away, of taking me out to a place with a nice view.
Unfortunately that’s pretty much all this place offered. We could’ve gone to McDonald’s and just sat out by the ferry and enjoyed the same view with better food and service for $150 less.
What’s Wrong?:
a) No Phone: You cannot call anyone at this place. There is literally NO PHONE at the hostess desk, so you get sent to a voicemail for “event services” and the message says someone will call you back the next day. So I wasn’t able to call about reservations, dress code, simple questions.. not even to let them know, as a courtesy, we were running a li’l late due to an accident on the road and make sure they didn’t give our table away.. and in the process I almost had an accident myself trying to text them while I was driving, which was dumb and should never be the only way to contact a restaurant.
b) Waitress service: practically nonexistent, for example I had to ask for a glass of water 4 times, finally getting up and asking someone who wasn’t our waitress. She was both barely present or helpful. I wasn’t even able to find her to get a simple birthday photo with the view behind us, I had to ask a patron at a neighboring table instead. I dealt more with random bus boys for stuff and the hostess. I will note that the hostess, Madeline at least made the effort to care and be helpful and I would rather have given her the tip than our waitress who didn’t really earn it.
a) Not same as on website: Like many people, when considering a restaurant I will go online and check out their menu first which I did. There seemed to be some decent options I and was looking forward to trying them, however much to our great surprise, the menu we received at the table was NOTHING the one listed online, I don’t think even a single item was the same. We were told it was changed a month earlier but nobody bothered to update it on their site. Had I seen this menu, I would absolutely not have dined there.
b) Options: Very rare I find a restaurant with nothing I want to eat. Well, this one managed to pull that off. Most of the selections were pretty marginal. Most restaurants have certain basic staples, a salad, a burger, roasted chicken that most people can eat but no, this was way too avant-garde.
c) Portions & Price: There was also no clear distinction between what were appetizers and what were entrées as the portions and pricing were all over the place and made little sense. Some appetizers were bigger than entrées. The pricing seemed pretty random and inconsistent, even egregious in some cases given the pittance of food that was delivered.
Common sense and attention to detail: In addition to the phone and service issues, there was also no decent lighting at the table (either ambient or fake candles) to read menus. Turns out the menus had illumination in them with a secret button that needed to be pressed, which, of course our lousy waitress didn’t even bother to point out to us so I was using the light on my cell phone. Once pointed out, my girlfriend’s menu illuminated but mine of course was broken and when they replaced it, it worked, but the menu itself was double printed on front and back so all you could read was pure gibberish… I swear ya can’t make this up.
There ya have it. I hope this is helpful info and the owners care enough to improve stuff (or get bought out by someone who does) but unless I hear otherwise, for now, we have no plans of returning. I do hope...
Read moreMy family and I have always been coming to this restaurant however this is the first time we had the most horrible experience. We were dinning at our fire pit table outside , later on a few disrespectful family members came to our table pull our chair and this is exactly what they said’ oh your time is up, this is our table now’ while one family attempted to sit on the chair. We had to call the host who came by and said oh yes you have to move because you were sitting here too long. This is all happening while our waiter Alex who is by the way very polite, kind and has excellent customer service skills, went to get us a bottle of champagne. After few back and fourth with the family members, one of them responded that oh I can pay for all your food. First of all we don’t even know who these daam people are, coming to someone else table and pulling chairs to sit claiming you know the host and then the host came by and said to us oh yes u have to give them the sit. Excuse me who the hell are you and who give u the right to tell a customer how long we have been sitting on the table and that they can come sit on our table and force us to move????
Talk about disrespect and discrimination!!!!
We were about to get our second bottle of champagne and we could not. We could not even eat our food in peace because these losers of families were standing right next to us over looking us. How uncomfortable that was! While all of this is happening no one came and ask them to leave. After Alex went to get the manager we went with Madaline who is the manager next to bar,we explain the situation to her, where she also share how disrespectful the family were. She claimed when the walk into the restaurant they push a card to the host and requested to be sit on our table. Mandaline apologize for the inconvenience and the misunderstanding that was caused.
We spend over 800.00 at this restaurant and you are telling the host allowed customers to come and demanded our table moving our chairs??
Doesn’t this call for a lawsuit for harassment while you are in an establishment dinning while the host allowed other customers to come on our table and start moving our chairs and leaving homophobic slurs towards us???? I guess this establishment will be seeing one.
The icing of the cake- while we were by the elevator waiting to leave, the discriminative host came to meet us saying oh I just heard what you guys said, excuse me??? Is this host okay???
Finally as we mention Alex is one in a million. Keep up the...
Read moreI am a great fan of Chef Marcus - including his restaurant “Red Rooster” located in the heart of Harlem, where I reside. & couldn’t wait to try out NoHu! Unfortunately, my experience at NoHu did not fulfill my expectations completely. My husband and I had reservations for 9:30pm (Tue, Aug 25) - we arrived 10 minutes early & were told our table was not ready. We grabbed some drinks from the bar while we waited....30 minutes passed, and we were finally seated. We are finally at our table, enjoying the drinks we were able to pick up at the bar prior to being seated. A couple of minutes after being seated, our waiter quickly walks by our table and tells us that he will be with us shortly.... “shortly” turned out to be a long 45 minute wait.... until we got the attention of a busboy who was near us, & asked him for our waiter. Our waiter FINALLY makes it to our table and apparently he was under the impression that we were waiting for the check 🙄 (mind blown) tells us he’ll be coming back around to take our orders. Thankfully, our appetizers and Entree’s came out in a timely matter- considering it took about an hour for our orders to be taken. The waiter only walked by our table twice to ask if everything was ok, and nothing else after that. To the point that we had to order additional drinks from another waiter who just so happened to walk by us. We attempted to seal the night with a delicious donut dessert, that arrived at our table maybe 10 minutes before closing (12am)- mind you, our time was cut extremely short...and unfortunately we were not able to enjoy the dessert while fresh, because one of the gentleman who works there rudely and “matter of factly” informed us that we have to wrap up because the restaurant closes in 10 minutes... he did that TWICE! (On our way out, the same gentleman gets on the elevator with us so I am assuming he was in a rush to clock out and get the heck out of there) we had no other choice than to box up the dessert & get to stepping! I am extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service & attention we received from the staff at NoHu. No consideration to at least allow us a couple of minutes to finish our dessert. I honestly expected much more from them- specially when I am paying a good amount of money to wine & dine/spend some quality time with my husband. This is something I would expect to happen at the Olive Garden,...
