Sammy’s Taste of Chicago (Nov. 3, 2022) Visited Milwaukee/Chicago from Nov 2-5 with 2 of 3 days spent in the former. Decided to visit Sammy’s since time constraints prevent me from having sufficient time to spend on cuisine in Chicago. As I was traveling cheap again and used public transportation as my primary means of traveling, I took the bus from downtown Milwaukee after visiting the Milwaukee Public Museum (A MUST visit while in Milwaukee!) on Thursday early afternoon. The one-way trip took about 45 minutes, and afforded you to see different sides of Milwaukee. It’s about a 4 minute walk from the destination bus stop to the eatery. The pictures you see in the reviews are very descriptive of the place. I’ve included a picture of the one change to supplement with the latest info and prices and certain fees. Food-wise, I ended up ordering a Polish sausage combo as my sit-in meal. The main selling point of the Polish sold here is that it is prepared FRIED as opposed to grilled in almost all other places. Let’s just say a fried Polish ups the taste with its crispr skin during the frying process. It is ordered Chicago style (Mustard, chopped onions, tomato and pickle slices - the only way to go!), and added the combo fries and drink which is priced 30 cents more than what most pictures reflected. The combo deal is a great buy as it included loads of fries even if that’s more costly compared to the past. The takeaway sandwich if bratwurst was a little disappointing when eaten later however; should have gone with the Chicago dog instead. Anyways, the Polish was highly fulfilling, and it’s a must have the next time I get there again. The owner (We talked about AT&T removing directory assistance!) and staff were pleasant. The kitchen staff were HIGHLY efficient. Based on my experiences, this is a 5 out of 5 star rating. It is a little out of the way, but if you do not have time to visit Chicago during your Milwaukke trip, definitely do not miss a visit to Sammy’s. ** Something I discovered while waiting for food and chatting with other customers: Sammy’s still offers a senior discount, and certain free food with purchase (I think it’s a free fry with 3 jumbo dogs purchased.). It’s no longer listed anywhere, but the store will honor these deals only if requested. Happy Eating !!

Today was our first and last time here. The gentleman at the counter was argumentative. He told me to take off my mask because he couldn't understand me. He told me that there is not a mask mandate and I don't need to wear one. I was ordering from a text message from my phone and was just repeating back what I was reading. Instead of explaining nicely that a certain item doesn't go on a dish...he was sarcastic and rude. So I ordered a different item off the menu completely. I've worked in the restaurant business before and I can not imagine being like that to a customer. The female that was working was pulling up the mat that was on the floor and put it to the side and then went to bag up orders. She did not wash her hands between. The food itself was lacking. We threw out most of the fries. Plenty other places to get a hamburger and hot dogs.

Sammy's is the spot! The atmosphere is very Americana and nostalgic. Everywhere you look there is an interesting piece of art from American culture. The food was authentic as it gets and there is plenty to choose from. I got the Chicago dog meal deal and a chocolate shake and they were created perfectly! You also got a generous amount of fries with the meal. The chocolate shake even had a wafer cookie as a mini treat! The prices are also top notch and very affordable for a large group or family. I advise going Sunday for their hotdog meal deal. It's probably the best value for your money in the entire state. I HIGHLY recommend giving Sammy's a try for your hot dog and sweet tooth needs!

Native north side Chicago resident here but raised in a home where we acted respectfully and professionally. I ducked in here looking for a legit Chicago dog with all the dressing including sport peppers which they had. Was very excited to see this. But as my eyes went from my menu selection to the employee behind the end counter I notices she was talking to friends. Typical minimum wage teen worker. I was raised not long ago in an era where you worked your job professionally, ie: no cell phones no friends visiting etc. But knowing that kids these days are ridiculous and have no formal of etiquette I wasn't suprised that she was jaw jacking with her friends instead of paying attention to the customer. Because of my severely low expectations for the x generation worker I continued to wait several minutes while they talked about pop culture and I was ignored. What happened next floored me. She came out from behind the register and started making out with one of the guys that stopped in to talk to her in front of me, the customer. I did an about face and left.

Hopefully this employee has been fired. Never got a chance to try the food since the employee turned me off. I will be going back again soon and posting my opinion of my...

Totally, disappointed. We come all the way from Hartford just to treat ourselves. We ordered our 2 double cheese burgers and the meal deal. Went to the car and began to eat. I took a few fries, but the were soggy, limp and weren't done. I took both orders back in and asked for new ones. Wow, that was a mistake, the cook in back said the customer can't leave and come back and that he put the fries down for the allotted 3 min. I explained i had just left and was sitting in the parking lot. By now everyone in the redturant is listening, I again explained that they were not quite done, after much complaining, a different cook said he would remake my fries.

I waited a min or so and then the owner with the glasses came out and proceeded to tell me they don't do special orders, the price of fries has increased and that the water content of the potatoes could have been the cause. I again stated I didn't mean to piss anyone off just wanted crispy fries. Meanwhile the lady behind the counter was trying to make light of the situation and said I should order fries with no salt.

The owner again stated it can't happen again and I shouldnt be so picky. REALLY!!!!

So disappointing that they would treat their...
