Big Boy — Restaurant in West Branch Township

I called at 10:10am on a Saturday to confirm this establishment served breakfast buffet, like the Clare and Mt Pleasant locations near me do. I confirmed they do in fact have breakfast buffet until 1pm on Saturdays and 2pm by the hostess. We drove from Beaverton to West Branch to enjoy breakfast with family camping in the area. Upon our arrival at approx 11;20 we discovered the breakfast buffet being taken apart and drained of hot water for the day. The waitress directed the manager to our table where he advised us the buffet was being closed for the day. I explained the above details to him. He left and came back and claimed his staff all deny receiving a phone call asking times regarding the buffet, but to make our table of 8 happy he world leave what was still on the buffet out And replenish what was missing it would take a little time. Feeling as if it was being insinuated that I was lieing I offered to show him my call log to further back up that I in fact called and had I been told the buffet hours weren't 1 on Sat and 2 on Sunday I would have gone to my local Big boy instead. I felt the conversation, although the manager was willing to replenish the buffet food, was confrontational. Other people dining in the restaurant also ate from the buffet along with my table of 8. The listed buffet times online also reflect what the hostess told me over the phone. Please correct the actual times online and with your staff if they're incorrect, or please honor those times posted without confrontation or insinuation of dishonesty. Our total bill was 75$ without tip and had we known the discomfort we'd feel while trying to enjoy a meal with family at this specific establishment, we would have gone to another Big Boy local...

My girlfriend and I got cold food, she was missing part of her meal, her lemonade was just water that smelled like it may have sat next to lemons. It took over an hour and a half, which is somewhat fine with how many people there were.

My meal: I got the bbq bacon cheeseburger and pretzel bites as the appetizer. The patty on my burger was bland and the only part with any heat. What little sauce was on my burger was watery, except for one small spot that tasted like nothing but ketchup, which isn't even on that burger. The pretzel bites were warm, but it took 10 minutes to get the cheese sauce finally. After we had the pretzel bites. The cheese arrived completely cold.

Girlfriend's meal: She got the Santa Fe scrambler. It was mostly lukewarm. The hash browns tasted the same as the smell of the cleaner that goes on panini and wrap presses at some fast food locations. Refer to above for the lemonade that came with it. She never got the hotcakes that came with her meal.

We did complain. The server, which was kind of slow, got a bit rude when we asked for the manager. The manager tried to explain that our wait was due to most places being closed today (were locals, we know that wasn't quite true). She refused to listen to our complaint about the food, stating that we must not like chorizo (we've gotten that before and loved it. I'm Mexican. Try again). She cut us off and walked away before we could say anything else.

All in all, don't come here. I sure won't be. Ever again. A shame, I used to...

We have been to this Big Boy before and have always enjoyed it. This time we went, not so enjoyable. Seated no problem, waited awhile for our server, was told by another server that our server would be with us in a moment. We waited a little longer, finally our server got to us and took our order. Brought us our drinks and didn't see her again until she brought us our food 20 min later. Food was terrible, our 1 year old wouldn't eat it. After we finished what we could with our food, we waited a half hour or longer for our server to come back so we could ask for the check. The server was nice but very brief with us. Nice is good, but I don't like when people are brief, especially when you can talk to other customers for 15 min and ignore your other ones. Now I normally don't put in long reviews like this, but the service all around was not good. I was really disappointed though cuz I was really looking forward to going there that day. I wish we had the other server that told us ours would be a moment, cuz he was good with his customers and brought our child some crackers during our long wait.
