SUN GARDEN REVIEW FORM
OVERALL RATING: 7/10 – Room for improvement but is a restaurant that has a chance of a repeat visit.
Meal cost: $10.45
FOOD REVIEW: Meal was a Pork Chow Mein, with Wonton Soup, a chicken wing, a crab rangoon and an additional 2 egg rolls.
Pork Chow Mein: 7-10 – Decent amount of pork in the meal, the veggies were a bit connected with a stringy broth, but the flavor was acceptable. Addition of the crispy noodles dried the veggies and really increased the quality of the meal.
Chicken Wing: 10/10 – The wing was the highlight of the meal, perfectly crisp outside, great chicken texture, and flavor was excellent both on the breading and the wing itself. Would order a plate of them as the entrée itself.
Crab rangoon: 7/10 – The cream cheese filling itself was dry, but the flavor was good.
Egg Rolls: 7/10 – Nothing really special, a standard cabbage filled egg roll. Was crispy, but the cabbage inside really didn’t bring anything special to the table.
Wonton Soup: 4/10 – Really disappointed with this part. I love wonton soup, but this was just a nasty example. The soup was bland, no salt or pepper, just a real lack of flavor in all regards. The wonton itself was slimy and had very little to no stuffing. The stuffing itself was a bland grey meat like substance that lacked the flavor to properly identify short of just “gross”. With the blandness of the soup and the slimy example of the wonton I ended up gagging on the first wonton and refused eating the rest of it. Just a sad example inside and out, wouldn’t order again that’s for sure.
SERVICE REVIEW: 10/10
Staff Asked conformation questions and reviewed my order with me. She also included the crispy noodles that I would have left without, so very nice service.
AREAS WHICH NEED IMPROVEMENT:
The wonton soup was a sad example, I would like the option to swap the soup out for a different item, such as a soda or an additional wing. And I think upon review of my own order, the Pork Lo Mein would be a better choice with the additional noodles added in to minimize broth in the dish.
OVERALL IMPRESSION: 7/10
The food was a much better meal compared to the last time I purchased from this restaurant, and I would defiantly go again. The cost vs the food quality is acceptable and I think that with some order changes on my end and getting rid of the wonton soup which was the weakest part of the meal I could easily see this being a 8, or maybe even a...
Read moreWe ordered egg drop soup, veggie lo mein, veggie pad thai, and the spicy eggplant dish. All of the prices were at least a few dollars more per dish than restaurants in the area with similar menus.
First the bad. The egg drop soup was pretty bland, and definitely not worth the upcharge compared to nearby restaurants. And the spicy eggplant tasted like pure sugar with very little other flavoring besides spiciness. But, it did have a large portion of veggies.
For the good, this was probably the best lo mein and pad thai we've ever had. The lo mein was moist and flavorful. The pad thai was phenomenal, in a rich nutty sauce. Warning that the pad thai came covered in unexpected cilantro, so order it without if you're like me and don't like cilantro. For this reason, I wish they'd list on the website what is in each dish.
Edit, we went again and ordered veggie pad thai, veggie fried rice, veggie lo mein, and hot and sour soup. The fried rice was insanely bland, nowhere near worth $10. The hot and sour soup was good, but not worth the upcharge compared to other restaurants. We won't order it again. The pad thai and lo mein were again good, but not amazing. The pad thai was on the dry side and had very few veggies in it. The portions again struck me as small...
Read moreI had been to Sun Garden once or twice some years ago. This evening there were 7 of us. The others go to the restaurant often and have their favorites, but I did not know what to order. I settled on a no risk plate of pork lomein and while it was VERY hot and served very swiftly, I did not feel like it was the best flavor I'd ever had. It was adequate. I'd give it a 3 out if 5. The egg rolls were fairly good. They were crisp and extra hot. I guve them a 4.5. We also had crab rangoon. While it had a more crabby flavor than I have usually had, I am all about how thin or think the pastry is. It was thick and not flaky, so I give them about a 3.5. The service was very good. Water kept filled and hot tea, hot. The place wasnt crowded and we were able to sit and talk a while. Enjoyable,...
