After living on Division for over four years, my fiancé and I finally decided to give Casa Tequila a try — and regretted it almost immediately. From the moment we were seated, things went downhill. We were served stale chips with salsa that tasted like it came from a can — and not even a good one. I’ve had better salsa straight out of a grocery store jar.
My fiancé ordered a skinny margarita that somehow cost $20. Twenty dollars — for a basic drink. We ordered the standard fish tacos (bland), another kind of fish taco (also forgettable), and the quesabirria tacos (just okay). And for over $20 for three underwhelming tacos? Insane.
To try to justify the price, they serve the tacos on a ridiculously oversized 12-by-8-inch wooden plank that makes no sense. It looks more like a novelty cutting board than a plate. It’s clearly meant to create a false sense of presentation value, but when the tacos don’t even come with rice or beans, it just ends up being a giant slab of wood taking up 10% of your table for no reason.
Service didn’t help the experience. When I asked for the check, the server didn’t print one — instead, he brought over a handheld scanner and awkwardly held it up with pre-set tip options. I always tip 20%, and I did — but I’ve never felt more ripped off walking out of a restaurant.
This place clearly leans heavily on branding and aesthetics, because the food and value just aren’t there. I’ll be shocked if this establishment manages to stay open for another two years. There’s no way anyone who actually lives on this street would ever come back — especially not for overpriced takeout.
If you’re craving steak and a proper cocktail, go to Gibsons — you’ll spend less and enjoy it more. And if you’re in the mood for Mexican, just about any other spot within five miles will offer better food, better pricing, and a more authentic experience — without...
Read moreCasa Tequila Chicago: A Mixed Plate of Flavors and Service Casa Tequila in Chicago offers a vibrant atmosphere that initially promises an authentic Mexican dining experience. Stepping inside, the decor is inviting, creating a lively backdrop for a meal with friends or family. On the culinary front, the restaurant truly shines. The food at Casa Tequila is undeniably good, delivering on flavor and portion size. From classic tacos to more elaborate entrees, each dish we sampled showcased fresh ingredients and satisfying preparation. The guacamole was a particular highlight, fresh and perfectly seasoned, hinting at the quality of the main courses. However, the experience was tempered by the service, which was merely "okay." While our server was polite, there was a noticeable lack of attentiveness and promptness. Drink refills were slow, and it took a bit longer than ideal to get their attention for requests. It wasn't poor service, but it certainly didn't elevate the dining experience. The biggest letdown, unfortunately, came from the drinks. Despite the restaurant's name, the margaritas and other cocktails we tried fell short. They lacked the vibrancy and balance one expects from a dedicated tequila establishment, often tasting watered down or overly sweet. This was a significant disappointment, especially given the expectation of quality beverages. In summary, Casa Tequila is a decent spot for a tasty Mexican meal in Chicago, boasting a good kitchen. While the service is acceptable, and the drinks leave much to be desired, the appealing food does make it worth a visit if you prioritize flavor over a flawless...
Read moreWent here on a Sunday about 4 pm. Parking was hard to find. We drove around a few times and then finally lucked up. Walking up, I noticed they have outdoor seating. I noticed at least 6 tables. It could be more, but i didn't count. When entering the restaurant, we were greeted. The host asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating. We opted for a booth towards the back of the restaurant.
Drinks: I'd definitely recommend! My friend and I got the same drink, but I got strawberry flavored, and she got mango flavored. I don't remember the name, unfortunately. I included a pic!...the drink tasted great, and I felt the effects of it after a few sips. I also tasted my friend's. They used fresh mangoes!!...I'd never had that before. It was delicious!
Food: I got the Tacos Locos for my meal. It comes with 3 tacos(carnitas, steak, and chorizo). It also includes cucumbers and salsa, which was good but very spicy. No beans, no rice came with it. For $17.99, I think at least beans or rice should have come with it. That's almost $6 for each taco 😳. The best taco was the chorizo, hands down!...so much flavor and the meat was slightly crispy. It was perfect. The carnitas was my least favorite. It was kinda dry. The steak was tender but lacked seasoning.
Our waiter, Aurelio, was awesome! He was attentive, had a great attitude, and was hospitable. He even brought out a tequila shot and sang happy birthday for my friend since it was her birthday.
The pricing is my biggest complaint. Our bill for 2 people was $100 and some change. The drinks were worth the money, the food was not. I'd definitely go back, though, for...
