This is the first AYCE sushi spot I’ve been to in Chicago, and it didn’t disappoint! I went for lunch, which is only available on weekdays at $22.99 per person (which is a pretty standard price for lunch AYCE sushi—other AYCE spots charge the same price for lunch).
The AYCE menu is diverse and expansive: around 20 appetizers, 6 salads, 20 nigiri, and 50+ sushi rolls to try. Our group of 6 tried the majority of the menu and left super stuffed, satisfied, and feeling that we truly got our money’s worth. The fish is very fresh and good quality, and the appetizers and salads are quite tasty.
Some highlights include: Appetizers— Takoyaki, Octopus Karaage, Jalapeno Bomb
Salad— Sashimi Salad, Baby Octopus Salad, and I’m always a huge fan of Seaweed Salad
Nigiri— You can’t go wrong with any nigiri; they were all super fresh and delicious, so just go with personal preference here. My personal favorites were Smoked Salmon, Yellowtail, and Eel.
Rolls— Mango Tango Roll, Volcano Roll, Crispy Roll, Smoked Sweet Roll, Fire Dragon Roll Though delicious, the rolls are quite filling and unless you’re in a large group where you’ll only be eating ~1 of each roll, you may want to prioritize nigiri over rolls to maximize the amount of sushi you consume.
Otherwise, the restaurant interior is spacious and nicely decorated. The service is quick, friendly, and attentive. Dessert isn’t included for lunch, but is included for dinner (which is $31.99...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Sushi taking. First and foremost, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making my dining experience enjoyable from start to finish. Their warm hospitality created a welcoming atmosphere that immediately put me at ease.
One of the standout features of this restaurant was their reasonable prices. It's refreshing to find a sushi place that offers high-quality food without breaking the bank. I appreciated the fact that I could indulge in a delectable meal without worrying about emptying my wallet.
Now, let's talk about their culinary masterpiece, the "2 in 1 Spicy Tuna Spicy Salmon Roll." This creation is nothing short of genius! By combining the flavors of spicy tuna and spicy salmon into a single roll, the restaurant has brilliantly solved a common dilemma for sushi lovers like myself. Instead of having to order separate rolls, I can now enjoy the best of both worlds in one delightful package. Not only does it save me money, but it also offers a harmonious blend of flavors that tantalize the taste buds.
Overall, I highly recommend this sushi restaurant for its friendly staff, reasonable prices, and the genius creation that is the "2 in 1 Spicy Tuna Spicy Salmon Roll." Whether you're a sushi aficionado or a newcomer to the cuisine, this place is sure to impress with its delightful offerings and...
Read moreI love this place. If you drive a few blocks around, and don’t mind a short walk, you can easily find free street parking on the side of the road. The atmosphere, especially on those chill, balmy summer evenings is lovely. If you're seeking someplace quiet, this isn't the spot, as it's always lively with music and crowded (not in a bad way).
The food is delicious, and having been here many times, I can say that it’s always fresh and well-prepared. The nigiri fish is cut thick, unlike some of those paper-thin slices.
Typically, I dine in with my family (there are six of us), so it's better to call about an hour beforehand to ensure there’s no waitlist. You use Yelp to be added to the waitlist if needed.
Some favorites of mine include Miso soup, Mango Tango, Fire Phoenix, Eel and Salmon Nigiri, and the fried Gyoza. I enjoy dessert after dinner, although it's not available during lunchtime, which is why the pricing varies (?).
The only unpleasant part of it is that sometimes the staff is a little rude. I get the frustration and rush, I can imagine it’s hard to keep up the pace and deal with big clientele but no need to act like you’re doing me a favor serving the table and then getting visibly annoyed when you see $0.00 tipped.
Despite that, definitely give it a try - it's my go-to...
