Hear Ye, Hear Ye- Just so happened to want a small bite before an appointment on a Saturday morning when I stopped in to Dove’s Luncheonette. The hostess Megan welcomed me with a big, bright smile and I was hooked already. I asked to see a menu and scoured it for my must have favorite food anytime of day.....A Biscuit. After being told by both Megan and an also very welcoming waitress Sarah that couldn’t order to go at the hostess desk, I was directed to the bar. I immediately made eye contact with the instantly asinine (I’ll get to the reason for calling him that in a sec.) waiter Sam who totally ignored me for several minutes and went on to help two customers who were seated. Sometimes you just know it’s about to get interesting, right? I get first come, first serve but being a former bartender and waitress, at least acknowledge the costumer! He took their order in an oh so pleasant tone, place it into the system and walked oh so slowly away and then back to me and exhaled as if bothered and asked what I needed. Despite his negative ora, I said hello and asked for two biscuits without gravy. Not sure why but he seemed taken aback by my order, rolled his eyes then proceeded to ring me up. When he returned with my receipt, it wasn’t surprising to read Two Biscuits W/Gravy. I simply reiterated that did NOT want gravy when Mr. Not So Happy Saturday blew up. The waitress Sarah noticed his terrible demeanor and immediately stepped in to assist. He hissed something to the effect of “...you can take care of that..” and she obliged, apologized on behalf of him and the establishment and rang me up. First of all, thank you Megan and Sarah for being so warm and inviting. Because of you, I was able to contain my Gangsta Girl physical and mental state. To anyone who is familiar with this establishment, please pass on both the positive and negative experience I have shared. As a person who resides in the neighborhood, doesn’t really cook, loves a recommendation and appreciates great food and service, it’s the little things that mean so much. Remember...

Habanero on the interesting BEET SALAD was a bit much for my taste, but I still finished the entire plate in small bites.
OFF-MENU MUSHROOM ENCHILADAS is an addictive dish that easily turns a carnivore into vegan/vegetarian (like, me 🤣). Make sure you put more sauce on each bite. Oyster Mushrooms is much appreciated.
CAJETA ICE CREAM is more of a caramel with a hint of goat. Yes, you can easily eat an entire pint. 😋 Ridiculously creamy.

Read moreTo begin, I was recommended this establishment by a friend. Being of Mexican descent, I have some high expectations for food from my culture. I believe this place does some interesting things but maybe isn’t as amazing as some reviews rave about.
I got the brisket hash and my sisters tried the horchata cold brew and masa pancakes (with the mole syrup). My sisters agreed it was interesting but maybe not as flavorful as they would’ve believed at first sight. I found similar moments of confusion with the food as the brisket itself had a good flavor but the rest of the hash I desired more. I tried adding some of the hot sauce provided and it lacked any heat at all. There was another oil provided which looked like it could’ve had spice but didn’t really add anything /-: I ended up adding a lot of pepper to give it some more flavor.
The service was superb which I do want to highlight. Showed up with no reservation, got on in a waitlist, we went outside for maybe 7 mins and got called back in for our table. Our waitress was incredible and checked up on us multiple times.
Seating can be a tiny bit uncomfortable if you are put in the stools but you can work with it.
Overall decent, maybe I had too high of expectations but...
