Gourmet Gorilla is misleading and disappointing. Their website toutes "healthy for kids", but when I dug into their actual menus if was anything but healthy. There was granulated sugar in almost EVERY meal, which is disgusting and the American Pediatrics Association says children under two shouldn't even have sugar at all. They also use commerical grade preservatives. When I reached out to the company they pretty much told me that they didn't care about my one opinion - that they "make food to the tastes and preferences of kids" and that if I have concerns I should "address them with a daycare". Obviously a child is going to prefer anything sweetened with sugar over veggies. There are SO many other options now, I feel like people know better now in an obesity and diabetes epidemic. Nail on the coffin and sadly smallest of my concerns was that they use conventional foods rather than organic - with all the information out there about pesticide residue and allergies in children I would opt for another company.
EDIT - Response from the owner is misleading they do not take feedback seriously. Clearly dietitians don't listen use American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines on granulated sugar or a form of Dextrose (sugar). I'm unclear why a catering company delivering food daily would need to include commerical grade preservatives. Other harmful ingredients include: Sodium EDTA Soy lecithin Corn oil Xanthan gum Moni and...
Read moreWe changed to this caterer for 1 month. In that time we found an ant in our cheese and a piece of painted wood in our broccoli. We had to run out and get our own food to feed the 50 children waiting for lunch. Do not recommend. They don’t apologize for their mistakes, very...
Read moreMy school carried them for one year roughly 15 years ago (If I recall correctly I was either in 2nd or 3rd grade)
They were so bad that they ended up being a routine but of jokes, we’d even refer to going to the bathroom as “serving up some gourmet gorilla.”
A lot can change in 15 years. I hope the kids who eat from them now do not have as negative of...
