My boyfriend and I went to Nellie's for the first time Saturday 7/16, 10:30am. We just happened to find it while in the area looking to try a new Puerto Rican restaurant, saw it had good reviews so we walked in. We had no clue that reservations were highly recommended, but the host said if we can wait 10-15 mins we would be seated. We said sure! So when we got seated, we on our own figured out that we had to download the menu, we figured out what we wanted and waited for our server. The bus-boy did asap give us water. It took about 15 mins for our waitress to come over and take our order, the place did seem busy but not overly croweded. A turn around of customers was happening so people were getting seated quick. I ordered the Jibarito breakfast, Parcha to drink and a straw for my water. She said they were out of straws, out of Parcha but can give me a to-go cup if that would make me feel more comfortable. I said sure thank you. My boyfriend ordered scrambled eggs, bacon, plantings, toast, orange juice and coffee. Almost 20mins pass and NO FOOD, NO TO-GO CUP FOR MY WATER, NO JUICE OR COFFEE FOR MY BOYFRIEND AND NO CLUE WHERE THE WAITRESS WENT. I look over at the 2 tables next to us and the 2 couples that came in after us have been fully served and eating!!!! Mind you, I'M VISIBLY PREGNANT, just came from my obg doctors appointment and I'm very hungry! My boyfriend who is a VERY calm almost passive person, was highly upset, couldn't believe that they would ignore a pregnant woman and not make sure she was being taken care of. NOT ONCE AFTER TAKING OUR ORDER DID ANYONE CHECK ON US. By boyfriend said we have to go (after 30mins of waiting), you need to eat and I'm about to lose my cool. Being pregnant and very far along, it's not good for me to go so long without eating as well as getting myself upset. So we just walked passed the host, he didn't even stop us and he said bye have a nice day. I through my arms up in the air in disbelief that he didn't even care that we had waited over 30 minutes and weren't taken care of and just let us walk out the door. All we could do at this point was go to Janelle's Kitchen, a restaurant that we had previously tried for the very first time and loved, which was down the block. I highly recommend the food, the service and the care of that amazing restaurant. Which I'm definitely not only going to go give them a great review but have also decided to look in to how my boyfriend's family-friendly motorcycle club can show support for that family owned restaurant. Nellie's all I can say is you all are so wrong and honestly can't believe the careless service of your customers. Maybe one day long, long from now we might give you guys a try again but considering the fact that I didn't even taste your food, your restaurant has left a very awful disgusting taste in my mouth. Wish I could give zero stars, so that one star actually only belongs to the bus-boy that ASAP...

4.4 stars, hmmm... How did that happen? Surely it can't be from Puerto Ricans. I had high hopes. Service was good. Minus my wife having to wait just to bite into cold steak. My wife ordered the Bistec Encebollado and the Jibarito steak. The rice with the Bistec was plain. Not only was the steak cold, it was also bland with very little onions. It was not the best. Best meaning the steak that falls apart with ease, yummy. I'll tell you where to go for that. I've been there before I became a vegan, probably 8 years ago. Now to the Jibarito steak. The steak was shredded and didn't fill the sandwich. There should've been a slab of steak instead. Oh boy, was my wife disappointed. She's from the Islands, so yeah. I purchased some white rice, beans, and vegetarian sausage. $5 for the rice. $5 for the beans. $4.50 for the vegetarian sausage. For the price of $14.50 I was expecting some good portions, not even close. I was served a child size teacup of beans, a small bowl of rice, and 2 sausage. The sausage tasted like morning star spicy sausage. At walmart they are $4.58 and comes with 6. The rice had no salt, butter, or oil like my wife's. I rarely take pictures of my food, but I had to so you can understand how small the servings I had were. I left there still hungry. I always tip for good food. Not there especially considering I was a victim of highway robbery. I surprised treated my wife to something different. It's been some years since she ate at a Puerto Ricans restaurant. She was so excited until she wasn't. She's still grateful that I though to take her somewhere different. Back to what I said earlier about letting you know where to go for the best Bistec Encebollado (white rice and steak) and likely the Jibarito. I actually went there right after leaving Nellie's I told my wife that I was still hungry and that I'm going to grab some rice only since I don't meat anymore for old time sake. When I got there I told them how terrible Nellie's food was and how I left there still hungry. After that placed my order for a large rice and a couple things my wife wanted. The owner's team said we got you. I didn't even pay for the. That rice and I love some white, was on point. I ate the entire cup plain. It's the right amount of salt and oil/butter. I believe it's steamed unlike Nellies which appeared to be boiled. Dining in, the rice at LA BOMBA is $2.50 as well as the beans. I don't know the portions, but I'll leave it on a future review for LA BOMBA the next time I dine in again. I used a fork so you can see how small my servings were at Nellie's. The cup is from LA BOMBA after I...

200 hours for 10mins food

Let me tell you a story.

I have heard a lot about this restaurant Nellie's on Division Street. The most horrible experience I ever had at a restaurant in about 20 something years of going too restaurants.

So let's start off with waiting in line for a table. They came and tell us our table is ready but yet took him 20 minutes to finally sit us down .

15 minutes for them to come ask if we want something to drink.

So yes we wanted some coffee.

It took about 20 minutes to get our coffee.

There was no spoons, forks or knife on the table or no Hot Milk or cream for our coffee .

so we asked for some it took about another 10 minutes just for the hot milk.

And as of the the spoon fork and cream I finally got up and got it myself.

So while I'm sitting on my table waiting to still order almost 1/2 hour goes by and the vent on top of me where I'm sitting starts leaking water on me.

So now we move and finally order 1/2 hour for a ham and cheese sandwich french fries two over easy eggs with bacon and pancakes.

So the bacon was cold and taste like grease and lard.

The pancakes taste like batter and there were undercooked.

So Know about the waiter he was more worried about people who were paying to leave and it took him about 5 minutes for each customer. Then the people who are there sitting down waiting to order and eat.

Shame Shame Shame everything and every time we asked for something they forgot not once but twice even three times before we even got anything we ask for.

This experience will be my first time to Nellie's and it will be my last.

This was the most nerve-wracking experience I ever had at a restaurant and let's not forget how very unorganized they...

I’ve been wanting to come to @nelliesrestaurant to check out their avena de coco who my friends raved that it was the best. Recently on Tiktok, someone blasted them on their service so I went to check it out on my own. I went and had the following: Guava Pastry Café con Leche Avena de Coco Breakfast Jibarito Ham & Egg Breakfast Sandwich Overall, the food, the service, and overall experience was great. Go check them out. #elpotato12 #elpotato12ontiktok #nelliesrestaurant #nellieschicago #humboldtpark #humboldtparkfood @nelliesrestaurant
