Being Korean and familiar with the cuisine's traditional flavors, I go into these modern interpretations with some caution. With that said, I really enjoyed my time today at Palilgu! A slightly higher price to pay than I'm used to for the same menu, but for the quality, neighborhood, ambiance, and nostalgic flavors I thought it was worth it.
Two of us got there for happy hour and got the rum punch and sliders off that menu. Rum punch was a great way to get work out of my head, sweet, but not too sweet and very refreshing. The seasoning on the sliders tasted fantastic as well, a sweet and spicy flavor that wasn't overdone.
We also ordered the tteokppoki and bossam of the classic menu. The tteokppoki was a smaller portion than expected, not from the price, more from what I was familiar with considering it is a dish typically shared. It was actually spicy, which is rare to find and very welcomed by us. We ordered a side of rice to eat with the bossam and was full by the end of that. The meat was cooked well with proper seasoning and fresh topping.
One important note for anyone Korean or familiar with what I'm talking about reading this. Please try the bossam and give this review a thumbs up if the samjang/bean sauce tastes just like ramen/뿌셔뿌셔 powder because I thought it tasted exactly the same and couldn't get it out of my head. I need validation!!
Overall, I'd say Palilgu is a great addition to Fulton market!...
Read moreI have been here a few times and love their fried chicken and pancake. Our waiter was amazing! Although there’s been a few times that they have “sold out” of what I would initially ordered he always recommends something else and it does not disappoint.
Yesterday, my boyfriend and I stopped by for dinner and were waited by our usual guy. That man needs a raise ASAP! Let me tell you! They were very busy for a Wednesday night and you can tell they were pretty short staffed. Our waiter was practically taking care of the whole restaurant. There was one lady we observed, straight face, no emotion what so ever, not doing a lot. In these cases where is management? That was unfair. Later when we were leaving, my boyfriend and I noticed the same lady talking outside with our waiter. When I tell you this lady was disrespectful…. She was disrespectful we could hear her raising her voice at the waiter and we briefly heard the waiter asking her to please lower her voice. But she kept raising it. You could not pay me enough to put up with that. Absolutely not.
A bit of advise to the straight faced woman: Be nice to the employees, real managers help out their staff and support their staff. They don’t berate them. Treat others with respect, the waiter was not being...
Read moreSolid food. For some reason the food took an incredibly long time for a small order. Our server apologized and offered us a free round of drinks. Only to come back and inform us that he wouldn’t be able to provide them complimentary. He actually was a great server and I appreciated the offer. I just think I was a little turned off on the stinginess. I couldn’t care less if I have to pay for the drinks, but if the idea is the service was too long and necessitated an apology with a means to make it right, taking it away seems wrong. The drinks weren’t good enough to have such a stance and quality service to the customer goes a long way, especially for a new restaurant. A lot of good items were out early and no dessert yet when we visited.
Overall, really tasty Korean food - but I think needs some improvement on the vibes and...
