Picante Taqueria — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

My 2 stars applies to my taco dinner with chips and salsa which I somehow paid $18 for even though she told me the lunch special is $8 . The add on for the chips and salsa says $3 and some change. So somehow tax came out to $6. I think she charged me for chips and guacamole which is $7. This does not add up.

The only enjoyable part of my tacos were the corn tortillas. The steak had absolutely no flavor. There is absolutely nothing that seperatets this place's food from any other place. It reminded me of a flavorless version of El Burrito Loco in the suburbs. The rice wasn't anything different and the pinto beans were just plain boring. The chips and salsa we're pretty much what I expected after eating the tacos. Absolutely NOT $18 worth until the recipe is changed. Yes, I am highly disappointed.

However, I do want to say something positive about this place. The staff is very friendly. The lady who took my order was very nice. She seemed very friendly and she did greet me when I walked in. Also, the food didn't take long to receive which is always a positive. I very much enjoyed the music playing and the booth I sat in was very cool. It does seem like a fun atmosphere. Who knew a casual Saturday stroll through wicker would take me to THE BEST taco place I’ve EVER been to. We decided to go here on a whim after walking past many establishments. Once we walked in, we were met with the nicest owner who walked us through the absolute expression of flavors that he called a menu. Along with a detailed and lively explanation, came recommendations and samples galore. After exploring our options we landed on a chicken, steak and al pastor taco. To drink, horchata and watermelon fresca. On the patio we ate our tacos and with every bite we fell more and more in love. Our mouths were met with an explosion of flavor in each taco. The salsas were very authentic and flavorful and accented the flavors of the tacos perfectly. Just when we finished and were basking in the glory of the best food ever, Felipe brought out complimentary fresh watermelon with lime that was the perfect fresh dessert, especially on a hot day.

First and foremost this is strictly a food review though the place looks great with a great staff. Pollo salsa verde- is bursting with flavor and tasty juices. Really enjoyed this. Great suggestion. Pork taco- was good with nice flavors, refreshing pop of pinnapple and went well with the house made tortilla shells. Fish taco- seemed free compared to the other two. Fine as a piece of fish but the flavor profile was basic at best. Average. Steak taco- was a complete disappointment. Not sure if it was marinated or seasoned with anything to be honest.
