What a great and fun place. This theme bar takes, of all things, Shuffleboard to new heights. Their space is large, with a nicely stocked cocktail bar, games galore aside from Shuffleboard - Four Square boards, Large Jenga sets, board games of all kinds (behind the counter) and six large Shuffleboard lanes.
Since this was the opening night we arrived when few people were there. Over the course of the evening, we saw people walking by and peering in the large windows. Some smiled and kept walking, and others came in. We were there for almost four hours and it started getting crowded as the evening progressed.
I've not played Shuffleboard since I was a kid. If you haven't either, I found it is like riding a bike. It takes a few minutes but it comes back to you quickly. Of course, after three or four cocktails you may not be as good as you once were, but it certainly was a lot of fun. To get your equipment so you can play, you register at the front desk and are given a number. When the number comes up on their lighted board they give you a beeper. And, when the time is right and the beeper sounds, you get the equipment and are given a lane to play. I'm not sure how much time you have, but the time flies.
They don't have a kitchen, but they set up an area where food trucks can pull in. The night we were there, I did not catch which truck it was, but the selection was not exactly what I wanted so we left for a hamburger next door then came back. I'm told that the food trucks will change regularly offering different selections.
The servers were very friendly, offering not only drinks, but I watched the helping people on the courts who either never played before or needed help. The bar is very well appointed with bartenders who are fun, and who knows what they are doing.
I expect that the Royal Palms will be a great addition to Chicago and will get a lot of traffic. I can see this becoming a regular place to...
Read moreWho knew that playing shuffleboard could be so much fun! It's also super easy to play, but difficult to master.
Located in a huge warehouse type facility, with 10 shuffleboard courts, great drinks and food, there is fun for all! The vibe is similar to an outdoor pool party in a warmer climate, and there are plenty of other things to see and do.
Try your hand at board games (ask at the front desk), connect four in the middle aisle, have a drink or food, take a picture in the photo booth and do some people watching while you wait! You don't even have to play shuffleboard, it's a really cool place to meet up with friends.
They have 10 shuffleboard lanes that rent for $40.00 and they are on a strict first come, first serve basis. They limit the game time to one hour to be fair to everyone. You get a five-minute lesson at the start of your lane rental, and your server will be able to answer any shuffleboard questions you may have for the duration of your stay.
You can also rent a cabana for $50 for 2 hour for parties of 10 or more, but, be aware, that you must also purchase a beverage package per person plus sales tax, 20% gratituity and 3% admin fee. They have a special for Sundays, the court fee is comp'ed, just use the referral code "SundayFunday".
They open Monday thru Thursday at 5 pm till 12 am, Friday 5 pm till 2 am, Saturday 12 pm till 2 am and Sunday 12 pm till 10 pm.
Leagues are here on Monday and Tuesday nights, so i don't know how many lanes are available to rent on these days.
Went here for an event and had an awesome time!
The drinks were great, I especially liked the Royal Swan Margarita (Maestro Dobei Diamante, Creole Shrubb, Lime Juice, and Blood Orange Juice) and the Spicy Gigi (Sombra Mezcal, Aperol, Lime Juice, Guava, and Spicy...
Read moreI enjoyed my time at Royal Palms. Wouldn’t be opposed to going back but probably won’t go out of my way to visit. It would definitely be a fun, memorable way to celebrate something with a group of people. Or if people are coming in from out of town.
Went on a Saturday night at 8pm. Took 2 hours to get a lane, but as to be expected during peak time. It would be a lot nicer if the music was quieter. My group was trying to find a table that wasn’t directly under a speaker but there were no such pockets. You definitely have to yell to be heard, which I hate. The music made it feel like we were in a club. I think the atmosphere could be just as fun with better volume control.
The drinks were yummy and there was a “food truck” serving tacos. I was pleasantly surprised by my veggie taco. I do wish there were more food options — perhaps shareables, appetizer style. There are lots of big games (jenga, connect 4, etc) to fill the time while you’re waiting. Even on a Saturday night, it wasnt too packed. Sadly we only got a lane for 30 mins and it went by very quickly. It was also about $1/minute, so maybe it’s best as an activity where you split the cost with more people. We were also expecting to have bar service while we were at the lane, but our server didn’t come up to us until we only had about 5-10 mins left.
We spent about 3 hours there. The food truck closed around 10:30pm which is a bummer. We weren’t made aware when the food would no longer be available, so we left to go...
