Pizza, Pizza, Pizza; when you crave it, you need it. What better pizza than getting a really good one that hits that spot when you need it the most which is when you actually get a pizza craving.
This place does not disappoint.
I've only been in the US for 21 years but seen everything American on TV; that said, I feel like the interiors here are a semi glorified but brighter version of a bar-ish place from the 70s or 80s? Great option for a long bar table where you can have a few drinks or even have your pizza.
2 or 3 arcade video games from the 80s way in the back (lovely touch).
The pizza itself is really great. Fantastic toppings, good chew to the crust and sauce was pretty good. I only wish (like I always do and this joint is no exception) they would extend out the toppings another half inch to the edge of the pizza. That however is my opinion.
My only observation/experience that was a slight, ever so slight letdown was when we entered the restaurant. You see, the entrance is a little strange. You enter the door and it's like you are right in the middle of the diners while the cashier/host area is nearly in the middle of the restaurant. Being a Friday night, it was crowded. As we entered, one of the servers said to 'wait a minute' and we did wait for many many minutes; was slightly uncomfortable as we felt like we were 'intruding' in the diners' spaces. Finally I walked over to the host section to ask if I was to check in or what the process was.
Yes, it was busy but isn't that what restaurants want and should be? That's my only negative and definitely not a negative enough to stop me from going here again.
Also wanted to add something about pizzas in general; Far too many times you spend a pretty penny on a pizza (and yes, they are pretty pennies because man have they become pricey compared to just 2 years ago), I've taken home a fresh pizza only to not enjoy it as much. Cause? Reheating just does not do justice to the pizza. Microwaving it should be a felony. However even warming it in the oven messes up the crust from what it was meant to be. We have decided we're probably never doing a take out on pizza or ordering it. You Gotta eat it at the restaurant when the pie...
Read moreOk.... this place was completely under my radar. My husband wanted to try this "burger stand" he had heard good things about. Ugh- great, good thing I was not hungry.... happy I am not hungry, notvtge most appealing thing to me. But yo my sheer delight, this was NOT a stand, but a small colorful restaurant, with a bar no less!
Upon viewing the menu, I see a slew of solid ingredients.... wait, this is borderline fancy pants. My husband ordered the burger, this is the best old fashioned burger I have had. It is perfect. My other favs in the city reside at The Bristol and The Dawson. I can not help but fall in love with the smells of NY pizza, the 80's iconic memorabilia, the arcade (small, but good). I order a glass of Pino (solid). I decide to order a pizza, Space Balls. Whipped ricotta, basil, sausage. I have not had pizza like this ever in Chicago. Every time I see NY pizza here, there is a sogginess no self respecting New Yorker would tolerate. This pizza is amazing, a crisp chewiness, that brings me back to great nights in NYC. I seriously love this place. And the staff, completely out of this world.
If you are looking for a place with truly solid food, beautiful ingredients, a fantastic staff, real cocktails, cute wine selection, ahhhhhhmazing pizza, and gorgeous burgers.... but you don't feel like getting dolled up, go here for the best casual experience imaginable.
P.S. Prices are shockingly low. We ended up getting another 10 inch pie for the kids. 2 pies, 1 burger w/fries, 1 glass pino, good music, smiles and conversation.... only $51! I can not believe...
Read moreJust got back from dinner here- I have been here several times over the last six years. The experience my fiancée and I just had was so unfortunate- what happened to The Stop Along? Where are the fun and friendly staff that used to work here?
The atmosphere felt hostile, the ladies working were unfriendly and the older lady made my fiancée feel uncomfortable when he asked for their beer selection (he said it felt like an interrogation). The younger ladies working seemed worried when talking to the older lady as she barked orders at them and in turn they hardly spoke. In general they were more focused on their assigned cleaning than serving customers. There were fruit flies everywhere. It was bizarre and felt like a different restaurant.
The burgers were so wet my fiancées fell apart. My burger was good but so juicy it was more wet than normal, I was hungry so I ate it and liked it as I normally did, it just was harder to eat. The cheese fries were delicious so I was happy!
Honestly, after this experience we will no longer eat here. We felt so uncomfortable I actually felt like I was in trouble because it felt so hostile. To the owners of the restaurant: please look into the wellness of your staff- please make sure they feel safe and enjoy working at the restaurant. I don’t think it’s their fault, I honestly think whomever was managing was making them act this way. This restaurant is all about fun vibes-...
