Ah ha! See now, I have actually driven past Ipsento 606 a number of times, but never really noticed its cafe. What always caught my eye is the colorful artwork on the side of the building, yet I never looked to see what businesses were part of the building with this colorful art. I visited as part of the Yelp Cafe Week and chose it because it was one of the cafes within a 3-mile radius from my apartment out of the choices for the week. During Yelp Cafe Week, Ipsento 606 offered 1 free 8 oz. of drip coffee, which I recieved proudly after checking in.
I made my way there after a short 2-mile run on the Bloomingdale Trail, so my endorphins were pumping prior to walking in the door. To be honest my after visiting Caffe Umbria, this was a huge downgrade in comparison to its inner interior and service I recieved, which I will explain in this review. I even mentioned in my review of Caffe Umbria that I will never look at cafes differently after visiting.
The cafe itself was very congested inside and post ordering I did not think that I would even find a seat, so I could jot some things down for my review. My interaction with the barista was straight to the point with no friendly interaction before and in-between, which was far from welcoming as a typical cafe. Most baristas strike me as being caffeine geek'd up, but this was a different experience, but I rolled with it.
Your only option for parking is either street or neighborhood which can be an issue due to it being Wicker Park, as well as there being other businesses along this highly visited area.
As for returning, I would have to really think about it because of my experience, as well as my expectations being set at a level that this cafe did not reach. I have to say other than the cute baked goodies they sell, everything else is average at this cafe, but I will leave it at...
Read moreI visited this coffee shop yesterday and had a really disappointing experience. I placed an order for two drinksâmine and my boyfriendâsâand waited off to the side after one of the drinks came out. A few minutes passed and my name wasnât called again, but there was a cup just sitting on the counter. Unsure if it was ours, my boyfriend politely asked one of the baristas, a woman with pink eyebrows, what kind of drink it was.
Her reaction was shockingly unprofessional. Instead of simply answering the question, she rolled her eyes, threw up her hands in disgust, and turned away from us without a word. It looked like she was about to scream at us, like she was having a bad day and reached her breaking point, but turned around before she did. It was an extreme and rude response to a very normal customer inquiry. It was so off putting that it made me want to write a review about it. We ended up asking the other barista, who confirmed it was indeed our drink.
To top it off, the coffee wasnât good. It is overpriced and tastes artificial. I simply wouldnât have come back just based off the coffee quality, but it was the attitude we experienced that really pushed me to leave this review. Customer service matters, and being respectful shouldnât be optional. I hope the management takes this as constructive feedback and works on training their staff to handle even basic interactions...
Read moreIâve been going to this coffee shop for about two years, it has been one of my absolute favorites. But theyâve made some really disappointing changes recently that really make me question if Iâll continue going here.
The coffee is luckily still great, but theyâve entirely stopped making the mini donuts and their standard (amazing) SANDWICHES!!! đ The Western sandwich was THE reason I would pick this coffee spot over others time and again.
I tried one of the new, premade, refrigerated sandwiches they have replaced the menu sandwiches with instead⌠just no. It was like a sandwich your mom would pack for you in school that youâd open half way through the day with all of the contents now formed into one soggy dough square.
They said they removed the good sandwiches because they get too busy to make them, but the appeal of this shop has sadly been significantly reduced in my opinion.
Not to mention on the weekends itâs now so busy that thereâs nowhere to sit and you canât actually enjoy a coffee or food here anymore, you have to take everything to go.
It seems like Ipsento has opted for quantity of customers over quality of products in recent months, and itâs really sad to see one of my favorite coffee shops turn into a place I rarely, if ever, intend to go in the future. Especially sad too bc the staff is...
