This was my 1st time visiting wishbone since they moved. Here is my honest opinion and I am very critical when it comes to restaurants.
Pros: Granted it wasn't busy I was seated promptly upon entering. This stood out to me because usually the hostess acts like they have to complete a calculus exam before they decide where to sit you. The server Roberto provided very good service. He was patient and knowledgeable about the menu. The wait time on the food was average. The temperature of the food was impressive. All of the items were the same temperature and held the temp during the meal. The ingredients of the meal I ordered tasted fresh. I saw a server pick something up off the floor that was very small and she could have left it there and it would have not been a big deal. Things like that let me know she wants to be there.
Cons: They don't have chicken/turkey patties. This is worth noting because while they offer non pork items sometimes the casing in the items that are links contain beef or pork. The bathroom did not have any paper towels in the dispenser and there was no way to open the door without touching it with your hand. Also the lighting was dim. I mentioned the lighting because I think it is important for the people who are responsible for cleaning the bathroom to be able to see/identify problem areas. I honestly don't remember the condition of the bathroom so it must have been satisfactory. It is typical street parking approximately 5 dollars per hour The aesthetics of the place seem a little out of touch with the quality/type of food served. The layout of the place is not the most efficient use space. They have a revolving door which I am assuming helps with the heating and cooling.
Now on to the meal. I ordered the salmon patties and had the greens and eggs as my sides. Salmon patties: Were cooked to perfection. Nicely seared on the edges but still flaky and moist inside. They were with flavor but the seasoning did not over power the dish. The flavors blended well together. Me personally I would have liked to taste more seasoning but just being honest they were prepared properly with the right balance. The eggs were light and fluffy. Judging by the texture and color I have to assume either they use high quality eggs, cook them at a lower temperature than most places, or cook them in a lighter oil than most places. Also the eggs were not overcooked. Many places fail when cooking eggs. Wishbone has it figured out. The greens were cooked with turkey wings. They were slightly above average in my opinion. They were cooked properly but they were not as flavorful as I would have liked. They seem to be missing something. It could be they don't use smoked turkey meat. In all honesty they were good but not great but I would get them again. The cornbread was a winner. Not sure of what they are doing but they are doing it right. When I mixed the cornbread with the greens it took the greens to the next level.
So overall I enjoyed my meal. When it first arrived at the table I initially thought the portion sizes were small. After finishing the meal I realized they were the correct size. I felt satisfied but not stuff and the food did not feel heavy on my stomach.
On a scale of 10 based on this meal I have to...
Read moreCurrent review (Sept 29th, 2023) Yall gotta stop with the weird hours. Can't even grab dinner because yall keep closing at 3 or 4pm. This is a dinner restaurant but now you don't open at dinner hours. What happened to closing at 8pm on Fridays? Come on Wishbone. You're one of may favorite restaurants. Let get it together baby!!!
This place is one of my favorite restaurants. I love the food and atmosphere here but I must say they are drastically falling off. I'm here right now on Saturday 4/8, came in at 5 something. I hope this was just a bad off time. For starters, I ordered an Arnold Palmer that is usually made perfect with sweet tea and served in a mason jar. The waiter brought me a unsweetened tea with a little lemonade from the fountain and it was bad. I sent it back and settled for an orange pop. Next, we order our food, I always get the blackened with 2 sides. It was $13.50. Now look at the pic I posted. Does that plate look like it's worth $13? The macaroni portions have constantly gotten smaller and smaller. You wouldn't serve this small amount to yourself. We also asked for cornbread muffins with our food, it's usually 4 on a plate and of course they only brought 2. My lady ordered the buttermilk fried chicken which is usually served only on Wednesday and Saturday, she said even hers tasted different. The waiter wasn't really that good but I figured he was new because I never seen him before so I won't hold it against him. I don't know if it's new management or a change in cooks but it's not as good as it used to be. I see then gradually declining. I love this restaurant, the food is great and I hate to see it fall off like the one on the north side. I'm certain there are other regular patrons that feel this way about Wishbone. Hopefully Wishbone actually read this and step up to the levels they...
Read moreExcellent Louisiana-Style Food, Cool Vibes, & Great Service!
Food -- everything was exceptional. The bar was going to be high with us being from the south and experiencing New Orleans first hand, but it couldn't have been better. Had the Louisiana Bowl with andouille sausage (split in half) with grits, tomatoes, cheese, green onions and hot sauce with 2 eggs sunny side up on top. We also had the Cajun shrimp and grits. Corn cake with solid, but not quite on par with the main dishes. Both main dishes were absolutely fantastic!! They were tasty, creamy, spicy, and overall amazing. The Louisiana Bowl was a tad heavy on green onions for my taste, but they didn't detract from overall awesomeness. One of the best breakfast we've ever had, and that is very high bar!
Drinks -- we had a bloody Mary (with a 2 oz backup beer) and pineapple mimosa to drink. Both were great. Bloody Mary was on basic side with olive, lemon, and lime, but that didn't mean it was bad. Mimosa was best we've had in a restaurant!! They many unique southern styled cocktails to offer.
Service -- was exceptional!! Friendly, helpful, and prompt. The drinks came out in record time, which is not always the case for breakfast/brunch places.
Vibe -- interior was super cool with chicken themes, unique art related to it, and overall theme that matched the food and service. Large patio also available.
Value -- paid close to $30 per person, which is pretty standard for getting two cocktails with main entrees. Many restaurants may not be worthy of the higher breakfast/brunch prices, but this one certainly is!!
Overall -- if you want a unique breakfast/brunch experience with excellent Louisiana-Style Food, Cool Vibes, & Great Service, definitely...
