Cold Stone Creamery — Restaurant in West Des Moines

We went here last week for our wedding anniversary date. It was so awful! Horribly untrained employees, dirty unsanitary environment and overpriced! The atmosphere was muddy wet slippery floors, in the line waiting. There was mud and melted sticky ice cream on the poster advertisement signs. The ice cream flavors were all soft and melting, because they were not held at colder temperatures, which led to the bigger problem of puddles in front of the store. There were rotten banana peels and dirt on top of the lids that covered the containers of toppings seen through the glass cases. The 5 young teenagers working there had no manager training or overseeing there. They did not wear hair nets or gloves. They touched thier noses, and put their hands in their pockets when serving. They never once washed the surfaces they served on, nor did they wash their hands or any serving spoons in between serving for different orders . I got a tiny bowl with 1 flavor and Gummi bears, and they didn't know how to make it for me, so I had to show them the photo from their online menu. One server dropped the icecream scooper spoon on the dirty floor behind the counter and he immediately picked it up and dropped it into the already dirty bin of water, which then the unsanitary floor spoon got reused for serving icecream to the next customer. My server put 3 gummies on top of my bowl of icecream and when I went to take my first bite I found lint fuzz and dirt on my gummies and I found dirt, hair, and chocolate candies in my icecream. I almost vomited, then chucked the whole thing and didn't come back to ask for my $7 refund because I knew they wouldn't know how to give a refund since they all seemed untrained and had no manager on site. This was a HUGE let Down, as it was our Wedding anniversary date, and Cold Stone Creamery was an expensive place my parents would take me to to celebrate my good grades in college. So I was hoping to relive a good experience years later and introduce my husband to a favorite growing up memory! But both of us wasted our money and were disgusted and I was really sad, the date was ruined. We made it better when we bought a $7 icecream pie at Walmart, though. Just stopped by with 7 people at 9:15 on a Monday. There were 3 kids working and they were still serving 2 people. They boldly told us they were closed and proceeded to talk poorly about us and the nerve we had to want to order When they were closed. Boy Otis', this place has gone so downhill. I can't remember the last time I heard your crew sing and i remember being told, "if there are customers, serve them. There were time's when i remember serving well past 11pm. If these kids think 9:15 is late...well 11 pm is Really past their bedtime. Bottom line...we probably would have spent around $40 at this dive tonight, but fortunately your employees saved us from buying ice cream from this Roach Motel....I read that in another review.

PREVIOUS REVIEW. I worked here for only a couple months before I discovered that the owners steal tips from the employees. They prey on the high school kids who do not question authority. They make them go to meetings on Saturday mornings without pay, and they threaten to garnish employee wages for fines their business accrues. The owners are Not to be trusted. Parents do not let your kids work here and really, the ice cream isn't all that good. Take your business elsewhere, these folks...

Cold Stone Creamery is awesome. Their signature creations really are all outstanding (our favorite is the apple pie ala cold). They always give you plenty of toppings, and the ice cream always comes out rich and creamy.

If you don't want to try one of their signature creations, you can build your own creation with all the different styles of ice cream and toppings they offer.

Their prices aren't that bad either, usually it ranges from $3 to $7 a person depending on how big and elaborate you want to get. Make sure to sign up for their email promotions, because usually they're send you out a BOGO coupon every couple months.

PS: For those complaints about their hours = Google business listings default at 10pm closing and unless the business owners edit the closing time, it remains like that. The owners of Cold Stone Creamery never listed their hours at 10 p.m., Google did. Yes the owners shoud edit the hours, but it is actually Google's fault for listing them wrong in the...
