I recently hosted friends visiting from California, and we decided to order from Persis Biryani Indian Grill in West Des Moines. Let me just say, it was a feast to remember! My friends, who have tasted Indian cuisine from various places, were completely impressed with the authenticity and richness of flavors in every dish. The Chicken Biryani (boneless) was simply outstanding—aromatic, perfectly spiced, and packed with tender chicken pieces that blended beautifully with the fragrant rice. Each spoonful was a burst of warmth and flavor, leaving us all craving more. The Chicken 65 was an instant hit! Crispy, flavorful, and beautifully coated with a vibrant spice blend that gave it a satisfying kick. My friends couldn’t stop talking about how perfectly balanced and addictive it was. The Apollo Fish was another showstopper. The fish was incredibly fresh and coated in a delicious, tangy-spicy sauce that elevated the entire dish. It had the perfect crispness on the outside while remaining moist and flaky inside. The mutton starter was a masterpiece in itself—the meat was tender and packed with deep, smoky spices that made every bite irresistible. It was cooked to perfection, with just the right texture to highlight its bold, rich flavors. Overall, Persis Biryani Indian Grill exceeded all our expectations. My friends left with rave reviews and unforgettable flavors lingering on their taste buds. Whether you're a local or visiting from out of state, this is a must-try spot for authentic Indian cuisine that delivers on taste, quality,...

The food itself is very good, and it has a lot of vegetarian options. The menu is cleanly divided, so you can easily know which are vegetarian friendly and which are not. The naan is also very good, and it comes with various options. I had the garlic naan and the cheesy naan. I think the garlic naan is better because the cheesy naan tasted a tad bitter/burnt. One other note about the food: the spice levels are not as extreme/intense as some other places, so you are able to explore spice levels more easily. I had a mild/no spice meal, which was very good and cheesy, but it could have used some more flavor (beyond cheese). I think the spice level is also associated with the flavor intensity. At the end of our meal, they gave us complimentary Mango Custard/pudding. It felt like vanilla pudding with apple/mango chunks (apple in terms of texture). The flavor was basically the same as the mango lassi. Service: The service is very good; they’re very friendly and kind. They have an aura that feels very friendly and welcoming, like you want to be their friend. Other: The restaurant interior is very modern and clean; slightly small, but very nice still. Because it’s relatively small, I would not recommend coming if you are in a wheel chair. There are a few high top tables and the walkway between tables does not seem sufficiently wide for...
I have NEVER needed to season my Indian takeout in my life... Huge disappointment for my 1st and last takeout here. My chicken saag was watery and tasteless with hard, large bitter chunks/slivers of some herb or spice you have to spit out after nearly cracking your teeth. The chicken was very plain and unseasoned.
I LOVE Indian food and have eaten at so many places. I love all the basics, then moved on to chicken korma and finally chicken saag as my favorite (which is what I ordered and pictured). It is the most popular dish above butter chicken, Tikka masala, whatever where I'm from.
What I got was water and spinach paste with no flavor whatsoever, rice with no aromatics or herbs cooked with it, and thin flaky naan. You'd think they put too much spinach, but I'm not even getting flavor from that. For these prices I would expect MUCH more in terms of rich complex flavors and effort. I knew something was off when I opened my takeout bag and it smelled like nothing, and I took my first bite and there was no magic in my mouth.
P.S. the garlic butter naan was a rip off, there was barely anything on our naan (just add it at home, or better yet, get Indian elsewhere where you'll get a better experience for this kind of money).
P.P.S. I got chicken korma here 2-3 years ago and it was mediocre then too.
P.P.P.S. my friend ate there not too long ago and had raw chicken in his curry and had food poisoning and crippling diarrhea after eating...
