Sal's Restaurant & Pizzeria — Restaurant in West Lampeter Township

The pizza is often overcooked and they definitely do not like it when you complain, even politely. The few times I have gotten pizza that was decent, I regretted it because it was a bit overpriced.

The middle of 2016, I had lunch at Sal's. I ordered a medium (I think? May have been a small) pepperoni pizza with extra pepperoni, fries, a soft drink. The person I was with got water. At this place, you pay first, then sit down and wait for your food. So, when I went to pay, the total seemed a little high. Well, it seemed a little high when she finally totaled it and was ready for payment because she kept having to redo it.

After the receipt prints, I sit down and go over it. We were charged for two orders of fries, even though I ordered one, and we were charged for another soft drink for the water. Charging for water is illegal, but I assumed it was a mistake, so when she brought our pizza over, I pointed it out. The employee simply shrugged and said "that's just the way we do it here" in response to both instances of overcharging.

Now, I KNOW the fries that were brought out was one fry order. That's what she write down on the order slip (I saw her write it) and, I know from experience about how many fries they give you - about enough to fill up one of those fry bags you get at pizza places.

After she walked away, I followed her. She walked back to the kitchen area and returned 30 seconds later. I pressed her on both points. She explained that since there were two people, she had to charge us for two fries and two drinks because we were going to share instead of each getting separate fries and drinks.

That's ridiculous. I told her I wasn't going to pay for the extra charges, but that I wouldn't mind paying for what I actually ordered. She finally relented after about five minutes of discussion after returning from talking to someone in the kitchen about the situation. She claimed it was the owner, saying "I'm sorry, but the owner has these policies in place so people don't try and rip us off. I can offer you $1.50 off."

As I was charged $6.50 more than the total of what I ordered, this was still an unacceptable compromise. I asked to speak to the manager, to which she replied "he doesn't want to speak to you". She looked and sounded like she was getting upset. I was actually with my mom, who by that point was also getting upset.

At this point I told her to just remove the other soft drink ($2.50) and we would go. She reluctantly agreed, and after three attempts to put the money back on my card, we left.

I had gone to this place at least a dozen times before this incident, but that will be the last time I ever go. That's not a way to run a business, nor is it a way to treat customers. I feel I was blatantly ripped off and was basically accused of trying to get one over on them by only ordering a single order of fries to share (which was all one bill- we were sharing the fires and the pizza, yes but that's how pizza works). You can try it if you want as the food can be decent, but it's not worth the hassle if you order something they feel like applying...

Me and my family order from here a lot,never had a problem until last night.I ordered the Linguini & Clams and when my boyfriend answered the door the driver said there was something leaking out of the bag and it was very hot....my boyfriend said he could tell by the way the driver was carrying our food my sauce probably spilled out of the container.....I opened my food and took the clams out of the shell and went to stir my food around and sure enough barely any sauce,I tried eating it but it was so dry I just had to call them....I did and told the lady who answered the phone what had happened and she went and got the manager.....well that manager was very ignorant to me,I did not know that the lady already told him what had happened and I started talking and he said I was already told what had happened and I don't wanna go over it again.I said OK and he proceeded to say what do you want me to do,what would make u happy?I ended up requesting they bring me a new one and they did but the driver had a attitude,guess because he had to come back or maybe because the manager yelled at him.....I won't stop eating here because of this but if this happens again I won't be so nice to...

This establishment is truly run by a disgrace of a human being. The staff is great, the owner is a problem. My mom while ordering food at the register was on the phone with my grandmother who has just been released from the hospital relaying questions from the girl at the counter to her about the order. The owner (and his lack of patients) decided to pull the girl at the register away to give her a different task with another customer and out loud tell her that she "can go come back to the register when my mother is ready to order". He is rude and should not be running a business. The food is another issue. He has no idea what the term authentic Italian means. No doubt there will be a for rent sign in the window of this unit shortly. This owner should find another hobby because obviously by the other reviews I've read this is a joke of an attempt to run a business. Try two cousins pizza down the road, in my experience they have been provided excellent service and the food is...
