Hoss's Steak & Sea House — Restaurant in West Manchester Township

We had a large group for my sister in laws birthday dinner last week. They had a reservation, for which, I'd like to point out, if a restaurant doesn't have wait staff that is capable of handling a large party seated together, perhaps state as much when the reservation is being taken, and confirm if a party will need to be split. We arrived and were seated in two groups, far enough away from one another that conversation between the two groups was impossible. Upon asking if we could possibly put the tables together, we were told that this would be too difficult for the server. I'm not certain in what way this was going to bring more difficulty, but, we settled to stay how we were arrnaged. The salad bar was decent. Much better than I had seen it in the past. This was only my second visit to this establishment, and had it not been for such an important milestone get together, I honestly wouldn't have gone based on my previous experience. Concerning points- several people ordered the steak tips, medium rare, which arrived medium well and TOUGH. The one who ordered a well done steak, was served rare. He couldn't even eat his meat and decided to not be fussy, just take it home, finish cooking it and eat it later. If you're just having a normal dinner, perhaps not looking for steak, and are looking for a decent enough salad bar, and have tolerance for some snaffoos, sure, give it a try. If you're looking for steak the way you ordered it, and find yourself low on patience for issues... Maybe find another place. The food is not good. I was there on a Wednesday. I ate the soup and salad buffet. The daily dessert featured was tiramisu. It was so bad. It was cheap "vanilla" pudding on top of a dry layer of cake. So disgusting. There was a slight amount of coffee on the cake layer but not enough to make it moist or give much flavor. Bad vanilla pudding is not tiramisu!

The nacho cheese was disgusting. It wasn't like cheese. It was like some sort of cheese flavored mystery product. There were a lot of lumps in it that scared me. The chili like substance next to the nacho cheese was even worse. It was almost like dog food with some chili spices thrown in.

I had a couple of soups. They were ok but not great and one of them had a weird aftertaste.

The ice cream was also nasty. It was a runny mess of artificial yuck. The only good thing on the entire buffet were the brownies.

The biggest problem was that I think I caught the flu there. I had not left my house for several days so I am sure I did not get sick anywhere else. I have not been sick with a cold or flu for well over a year so there were not any germs at home for me to catch and there was nobody at home to make me sick. The day after I ate at Hoss, I started to get a sore throat. A week later, the sore throat has developed into a cough, a wheeze, a worse sore throat, that weird taste in your mouth when you are sick, congestion, a nonstop running nose, and it has gotten into my chest. I really think I got it from the food at Hoss because there was nowhere else for...

Love this place! I am never disappointed with the food and the selections. This is, in my opinion, the best place around for a all-you-can-eat salad bar. Two of us ordered just the soup and salad bar. I ordered a Philly cheese steak with fries plus the salad bar. The fries were tasty and I chose to take half of my sandwich home. The French onion soup is so good! And the other soups were delicious. Their soup special was Homemade Hamburger Stroganoff and it was awesome. The greens from the salad bar were fresh and the prepared salads were delicious as always. They have a good selection of salad dressings, including hot bacon dressing that tastes like my mom's. This is a great restaurant for lunch or dinner. It's a great place for family and individuals to enjoy comfort food. Hoss's is a nice place for small groups to meet over a quick lunch.
