Denny's — Restaurant in West Mifflin

Place was dead when we got there. Waited forever for everything from drinks to apps to beverage refills. They came 6 times asking questions about our order and still got some of it wrong. There was a woman with long blond hair who seemed to be the manager, cooking. No hair net nor hat. Just flinging that hair all over the place. We had to ask for napkins, appetizer plates, drink refills. Some other customers came in and they were all served their food before us. Our food came out one meal at a time, and in some cases even the meals were coming out separately, sides arriving after the main dish. One of our party was done eating while others hadn't even been served yet. IMO the food was mediocre. Mind you, all I can think about is the blond hair cooking my food. It took about 1 hour and 30 minutes for us to eat. And we were hangry. When we walked in there was a table that needed bussed, and it still needed bussed when we left. None of our plates or empty drink glasses was ever picked up. We were a party of 6. Now I want you to know we still tipped 15 to 20 %. The manager type chippie went to each of the other 4 tables, asking if the food was OK. They appeared to be regulars. She never came anywhere near our table. So I spent almost $150 for so so food, served in stages and cooked by a bunch of long blond hair. I guess they only care about the regulars, but if our visit had been better, we would have gone back there. That's NOT happening. I'm not sure if this is an evening problem or what but think twice about spending your food dollars elsewhere. There's so many other choices and it's getting more expensive by the day. Now, I gotta say, I paid with 100 one dollar bills. Not to be mean, it's just what I needed to pay with. Used my debit card for the balance. They were very good about it. No one wanted to count it. If you've been here before, but haven't been back in a while, you're going to be shocked at all of the menu changes. Many of the beloved favorites are now gone, and those that remain are not exactly what they used to be. Good news is that that is not always bad news!

Cons

My favorite item on the menu used to be the chicken fried steak and country gravy, but not anymore. They changed both the chicken fried steak and the country gravy drastically, and I doubt I'll ever order it again. The chicken fried steak has less flavor than it used to and it's really hard, and the gravy is flavorless and tastes similar to wallpaper paste.

Pros

The new skillets are really good and many of the traditional breakfast items are still available. You can never go wrong with a Denny's breakfast!

The customer service here has usually been 50/50, but as of late it's been spectacular. I would recommend the evening and night crew over day in morning, but you're really getting good service no matter what time of day.

NOTE

If you choose to use take out (or order online, door dash, GrubHub) double triple quadruple check your order, especially if you make special requests. This is not a good place to randomly order takeout. They screw up take out almost every time, even when we go in person to pick it up.

I gave 5 stars because of the manager Charlene and her new waitress Aaliyah if i spelled it right! I watched a beautiful young black woman be completely broken down by an older white couple and there mom I watched her hold her head up high and Im sure she seen she was treated that way by the color of her skin and not what was really going on. Charlene the manager I do not think was completely aware of what was going on but wow did she take care of her worker with it being her first day and also putting up with these people with a smile on her face and bring as respectful as she could have been. They said they were there for 45 min not true we got there same time maybe a 15 min wait on food. They complained when they got the food but yet I witnessed them lick the plate at one point. Aaliyah and Charlene did an amazing job with such hostile prejudice people and I hope they get commended for it! If your looking for great service or a job where your manager got your back?
