To play this course you better have a pga tour card. I don't say this because it's difficult I say this because the course management expects you to play in a sub 4 hour round as a foursome. I have played here twice this year and both times had issues with a group behind us playing quickly and my group playing under a 4 hour round getting pushed by the Marshall. My foursome typically plays anywhere from 3:50-4:15 for a typical round of 18. When we last played we teed off at 7:55am on a Friday and at the 8th hole the Marshall approached us saying we were 2 holes behind because there were 2 holes open in front of us. At this point it was 9:40 as we approached the 8th tee box. The group in front of us went off at 7:40 and were a twosome and there isn't a foursome outside of the pros who could keep up with a quick 2. We finished the 9th hole at 9:56 which is a 2:01 front 9. The group behind us was a threesome who would approach the tee box as we made approaches to the green on every hole. If they were truly up our but we would have gladly let them play through. After the 10th I asked the marshal how long the front 9 plays and his response was it depends.... I said typically what does it play and he said a little over 2 hours.... I said well we played at 2 hours which he responded im a very rude tone with you are 20 minutes behind... so if that's the case it is expected that a foursome play the course in 3 hours and 20 minutes which is ridiculous unless your a

The entire facility is beautiful and I'll review it another time.
Dinner for 5 at The Burgess. The dining room is modern and bright with floor to ceiling windows/doors that open to the outer deck for alfresco dining. Several red umbrella covered high-top tables are placed about the wrap around deck that offers a lovely view of the course. The dining room is furnished with standard height tables that seat 2 or 4 and the spacious bar seats at least about 20.
The cavernous room with vaulted beamed ceiling was a bit loud as it was full at 6:45, mostly with golfers just off the course. The bar was full as well.
The staff was casual and competent. Our server was friendly and attentive.
Our drinks arrived in short order and the beers and cocktails were enjoyed by all.
We shared 2 appetizers for the table. The loaded fries were to die for. A huge pile of perfectly cooked and seasoned fries smothered in the delicious cheese sauce, bacon, and candied jalapeños. So good a table mate asked for a spoon so the sauce wouldn't go to waste. The Fried Brussel Sprouts were on point. A huge pile covered in crispy bacon and generously drizzled in Comeback Sauce....which earns its name because we're all coming back more.
Entrees included Fish & Chips, BBQ Buffalo Wings, and Paddock Smash Burger. The fish came with Fries both perfectly cooked, coleslaw, and tarter sauce. We asked for malt vinegar, and a bottle was delivered quickly. Two large, beautifully fried pieces of cod and those great fries. The Paddock Smash was 2 smashed patties on a seeded Brioche roll with Mayo, New School American Cheese & Pickles. We made it Billy style for $2 added Bacon Jam and the Candied Jalapeños. This burger was legit, a bit messy, and so good. I can't wait...
Read moreGreat Donald Ross designed (1931) public course owned by the city of West Norriton (Restored in 2000). The course is beautiful and always in great shape. A number of very challenging holes. A number of holes where you cannot see the green. A number of elevated greens surrounded by bunkers which adds to the level of difficulty. A number of holes with wife open fairways where you can let it rip. A slope of 140 (Very, very difficult.) from the White Tees.
A big drawback which is often a factor into my decision to play or not play the course is the 19th hole/restaurant (Sandwiches, finger food and beer.) It, as well as the Pro Shop, is essentially a hole in the wall and epitomizes the facilities as a whole. The physical plant is an embarrassment. Probably circa 1931.
The club suffers greatly in comparison to it's near neighbors, Shannodell and Westover. Both of which have beautiful facilities, a big factor in the determining where to play. (The courses themselves are certainly a factor as well. Increasing level of difficulty: Westover, Shannondell and Jeffersonville.) The City of West Norriton should upgrade the facilities. I'm certain the return on their investment would be immediate. Both Shannodell and Westover have a thriving banquet and non golf related restaurant and bar business. I frequent both not to play golf but to enjoy the ambience of their bar and restaurant.
In short, love the course (4-5 Stars). Hate the...
