Jon Smith Subs on the northwest corner of the intersection of US 1 and Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach serves up delicious subs to suit nearly every taste.
It is a good sign that the friendly folks who work there have regulars who call out their names in greeting as they come through the door.
My friend and I enjoy carry-out subs from Jon Smith Subs, and we always get the same order: tuna with jalapeño peppers for my friend, steak and cheese for me, plus a medium sized order of fries to share.
My friend digs into the fries before we even leave the parking lot. They are still so hot from the fryer that I joke I’ll burn my teeth if I eat any that soon. They are so good that maybe we need to start ordering the large size.
The fries and my sandwich are still warm when we get to my friend’s office, and the tuna salad in the sub is still cool. I get a few sliced jalapeños to slip in between the steak carvings on my sub. Yum!
If you arrive at Jon Smith Subs during lunchtime, didn’t despair over the lack of parking. There’s a fast turnover here with lots of folks getting To Go orders.
A full parking lot here can empty in a matter of minutes and immediately begin filling as a fresh wave of patrons from all industries come to enjoy a lunch in or...
Read moreI’ve been going to John Smith since I was a kid—at least 20 years—however, I stopped going a couple years ago because the prices have gotten insane. I recently returned to see how things are, and I was shocked at how bad it’s become. My wife and I ordered two different six inch subs (steak bomb and tuna) and a medium fries, which totaled about $25. $25. Worse than the price was the food itself. The steak bomb barely had meat, veggies, and cheese, whereas in the past it was stuffed. And the meat, which used to be juicy and delicious, was dry and sad. The only redeeming part of the meal was the fries, which were hot and delicious.
John Smith locations in the area are disappearing. Within the last few years I know of two that closed. It’s obvious why: the prices are unreasonable and the portions are insulting. Consumers won’t tolerate it forever. John Smith needs...

This restaurant is a chain, but don't let that dissuade you, the food is well above average. The steak sandwich is actually pretty spectacular. Steak sandwich purists are gonna disagree, but I don't think the meat scraps and cheez whiz garbage found in "traditional" cheese steaks compares to the Jon Smith steak bomb. Great ingredients prepared - by hand - make for a genuinely great sandwich.
The fries are fantastic, and make a perfect accompaniment to the sandwiches. In fact, I'm told they're known for their fries and it's no wonder - they're that good.
The staff are great, and they care about the quality of your food. They sometimes ask me to wait a minute or two because they want my fries to be fresh. They remember my order and are so friendly.
Yes, it's a chain but it doesn't feel that way. I recommend it if you're a fan of a good, dare i say great...
