So, I had a grand adventure in parenting today. My daughter goes to Catholic school, and sings in the school chorus. They asked the kids to sing during Mass this morning, so we (who are Nazarene) went to Mass. Anyway, Mass was at 8:30AM and we didn't get to eat breakfast before, so our 5y/o son, who is ADHD, did not get his medicine because he is supposed to eat first. Well, he began to act out. We got through Mass fairly unscathed though.
We decide to go to Bob Evans in Cross Lanes, WV afterwards for breakfast. Our 5y/o was mad about something, and decided to charge me and swing at me. I reacted, sidestepped him and swapped him on the butt. So, we get seated and he continues to act out. I pick him up, take him to the car and let him finish his fit, and we go back in and proceed to order, calm at this point.
We notice that it is taking a long time to get our order, and suddenly the waitress comes out and offers us some free food, I decline. About 2 minutes later a deputy walks up and requests that I take a walk with him.
He states that someone called 911 over a child getting beat on. I said, "yep, he took a swing at me, and I swatted his butt." He said that he looked at my son, there are no marks and he seems happy, and that he believes that nothing wrong has been done. He did not request my name, my ID or anything, so nothing else can happen, but it is embarrassing.
So, I go back, we explain the exchange to my wife and we get our food and I try to eat. Not hungry at this point, so I stop.
We discuss the facts, and realize that the offer was to stall us, and that we WERE NOT visible to the door, nor were we the only parents with kids there at that time, and that the deputy seemed to home right in on us. So, we get the check, and I request to speak to the manager, as I am 99.9% sure the ordeal was because of an employee, and I at least suspect that my waitress was complicit f not 100% responsible or the ordeal. She asks why I need to speak with the manager, and I explain that I firmly believe an employee was responsible for the 911 call. She, of course refuses any involvement.
I talk to the manager, and again explain that I believe that one of his employees is responsible and he "assures" me that I am mistaken. I explain the offer for free food, and the fact that the deputy seemed to know to come straight to me, even though at this time we are laughing and playing tic-tack-toe. I tell him that we are somewhat regulars and that we will not be visiting his restaurant again. He again claims that he has talked to his employees and they didn't do it. I walk away midsentence, still 99.9% sure of the blame. I hear my dear wife say something to the effect of, "We have an ADHD child, how we discipline our child is our business, and no one else's." Yes, I married well.
So, I go pay, and am asked, "Was your meal okay?" NOPE, and since I truly believe that waitress was at least partially involved, she got exactly $0.00 in tips. That is the absolute first time I have stiffed anyone on tips, but I think it was warranted this time. I believe the offer of free food during this point may have been Judas' kiss, to point us out to the "authorities."
Ultimately, what was found? I did nothing wrong, and that the Bob Evans in Cross Lanes is not the place to be going for food.
I am so done...
Read moreMy wife and I just left the cross lanes Bob Evan's restaurant and we arrived at 9:45 am for breakfast and also ordered thier cinnamon bites. The app took 45 minutes b4 it came out and we didn't receive our breakfast until noon. There were several groups that walked out in that time. The manager passed out what the customers thought was a free meal card for the extended wait times on food. As we were getting up to leave they gave us a bill for 45 dollars. I go to the register to exchange what I thought was the free meal card to cover the meal only to find the card was only a 5 dollar off and we still had. To pay 40 dollars for the meal . I would just like to say that I will never go back to Bob Evan's and will do my very best to discourage everyone i know and anyone thinking of going to not go the manager should have been ashamed for not staffing the restaurant better or been behind the counter helping the cook with food orders. Instead she was exposing the food that wasn't coming out in a timely manner and losing customers in the process. If the Bob Evan's corporate office see's this is have left a message on your guest services line and I hope you will call and discuss this miserable experience my wife and I along with the many other customers experienced on May 31 2025 in...
Read moreWorst experience my family and I have ever had! We waiting to be seated (or should I say to be recognized) for a good 15 mins! When we over heard the couple in line ahead of us had been waiting for 25 mins, my husband stepped up and asked the host for a table for them (considering there were plenty unoccupied clean tables). When we finally were seated it took our waitress 4 times to comprehend our drink order. Our food was cold, nasty, and my kids barely touch a bite of their food. We waited forever for coffee that our waitress gave to another table. (We're still waiting). Even though the food was not edible, we still paid our full bill. As we were walking out our waitress over heard us talking to the manager about her lack of customer service and the fact she was completely blown out of her mind! She continued to apologize for her lack of service and when I explained to her that being busy wasn't an excuse ( because they weren't) she continued to argue with me and really expected a tip! (The only tip we left was to stay off the drugs) 1 plus side he manager did hand all 5 of our kids a cookie on the way out and she did...
