I recently had the pleasure of dining at Dolly's Diner in Princeton, WV, and I must say it was a delightful experience from start to finish. This charming little diner has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit.
To begin our meal, we ordered a few appetizers to share. The hush puppies were a real standout. They were crispy on the outside, yet fluffy and flavorful on the inside. The breaded mushrooms were also a hit, with a satisfying crunch and a savory taste that left us wanting more. The fried pickles were a unique twist on a classic, and they had the perfect balance of tanginess and crispiness.
Moving on to the main course, we tried the Dolly Burger and the grilled cheese sandwich. The Dolly Burger was a mouthwatering delight. The patty was juicy and cooked to perfection, and the toppings added just the right amount of flavor and texture. The grilled cheese sandwich was a comforting classic, with gooey cheese oozing out from between perfectly toasted bread slices. Both dishes were served with a side of crispy fries, which complemented the meal nicely.
We also decided to try their soup of the day, which happened to be a hearty tomato soup. It was rich and flavorful, with a nice balance of sweetness and tanginess. The soup was accompanied by a fresh side salad that was crisp and refreshing.
Finally, we couldn't resist indulging in a slice of their coconut cream pie for dessert. It was heavenly. The pie had a creamy and luscious coconut filling, topped with a generous amount of whipped cream and toasted coconut flakes. Each bite was pure bliss, and it was the perfect way to end our meal.
Overall, Dolly's Diner exceeded our expectations in every way. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the cozy ambiance made for a pleasant dining experience. I highly recommend trying their hush puppies, breaded mushrooms, fried pickles, Dolly Burger, soup, grilled cheese, and coconut cream pie. Whether you're a local or just passing through Princeton, WV, Dolly's Diner is a must-visit destination for a satisfying and...
Read moreI enjoyed my visit to Dolly’s. The food is the most important, so let me comment on that first.
I had a cheese omelette, hash browns, and a biscuit with an appetizer of hush puppies. They only had sliced sandwich cheese for the omelette, making its filling not great. Hash browns were a-okay! Biscuit could afford to be less greasy. The hush puppies were delightful, maybe just ever so slightly underdone. The coconut cake was excellent!
It was a good meal- however! For the 6 hours after I ate it, I was burpin’ and tootin’ up a storm! I had a belly ache and did not feel well. My dad also felt this way. If I had to guess the culprit, I’d guess it was the hush puppies. This rarely happens to me, and it was very unpleasant.
Now onto the atmosphere… The overall aesthetic is nice. I strongly disliked the visual appearance of the menu. The text was scrunched together on the back. I could not read the burger section without guiding my finger line by line. With such an expansive menu, it’d probably be best to put it on multiple pages in a booklet.
Additionally, there are way too many fonts all over the restaurant. In my philosophy of branding, there should be a maximum of three within a type of thing like menus or signage. More consistently with the fonts would really help the art look tidier, along with a menu redesign.
Since there are TVs in the restaurant, my dad suggested that a few of them should be flipped to a news channel on mute. As this is located near a major interstate, travelers are likely looking for a quick catchup. He also noted the lack of apostrophe in “Dollys” on the digital sign outside. Also, I think the playlist could use some more lighthearted contemporary songs added in- not just oldies.
The service was great, and the staff was very attentive. Overall, I enjoyed my visit. I don’t know that I would come back though because of the illness I...
Read moreCame here for the 1st time with my Mom who is from out of town, she wanted to eat at a nice restaurant before returning back home, we stopped here because of all the rave reviews. They sat us down immediately, waitress was nice but almost none existent, here's problem #1; was more interested in talking with her fellow coworkers than serving us, this is the problem with hiring highschool teens, only came to the table to take our orders and then to give us the bill, never asked us if we wanted refills or anything, there's nothing more I hate in a restaurant is going dry and having nothing to drink, here's problem #2, instead of Dolly's Dinner, they should name it Walmart's Dinner or Sam's Club Dinner, I don't know if we picked a bad day where they ran out of everything or the owner is cheap, (read some of the reviews where he justifies using margarine over butter, yuck!), Almost every condiment including the ketchup is Great Value brand, a classic dinner should always carry Heinz and sadly some of the frozen food they're serving is Great Value brand, like the burgers and chicken strips, the sliced bread, etc; I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger and my Mom ordered a chicken finger basket, I've been to plenty of work cookouts and neighbors cookouts that use that nasty Great Value preseasoned frozen burger patties, I recognize that taste anywhere and that's exactly how my burger tasted, was very disappointed, I also recognized my Mom's chicken fingers as Great Value brand, I buy them all the time, like I said I must have came on a bad day or people that leave these good reviews don't have good taste in food. Definitely won't be back, unless better...
