I really don't like leaving really bad reviews. And it is possible that our experience at George's was not the norm. So this review should be taken as more of an isolated experience and not the norm.
Five of us all had the buffet on a Sunday after Church. 15 minute wait, so it was obviously busy. And busy restaurants usually mean fresher, hotter food on the buffet.
George's had a decent sized/assorted salad bar and a good variety of comfort food, pastas, and pizza on the hot buffet. At first glance, it looks as if you'll have a tough time deciding what all you want to eat. The positives end there, however.
My first plate had a sampling of a vegetable-steak stir-fry, kielbasa in red sauce, maybe black pepper chicken-vegetables, and penne pasta with mozzarella in red sauce.
The stir-fry steak had a strange flavor and was slightly dry even though it was surrounded by moist vegetables. One bite was enough.
The kielbasa tasted more like spam and the red sauce was forgettable. I did eat three bite-sized pieces of kielbasa, if that's what it really was.
The black pepper chicken was completely dry and tasted like it had sat far too long on the buffet. One bite was enough.
It takes effort to ruin baked pasta with cheese and pasta sauce and I managed to eat half of the cup-sized portion I put on my plate. The fact that I couldn't eat a cup of baked ziti should tell you the quality of what was on my plate.
One trip to the buffet and I left nearly my entire plate to be removed from the table. So I decided to hit up the salad bar. Can't go wrong there, right? Well...
I started building a normal salad for me with mixed greens. Everything was fine until I added the chickpeas. Chickpea liquid consistency is usually between water and extremely light syrup. Point is that it should pour or run off the vegetable easily. This full container of chickpeas, unfortunately, had a liquid consistency of pancake syrup. It clung to the peas and drizzled onto my salad. Salad ruined. I pushed the tainted salad to the side of the plate and built a half-plate sized salad which tasted fine.
Two trips to the buffet and I have had 6 ounces of salad, three bites of mystery meat, and half a cup of baked ziti. Round three begins.
For the third round, I head straight for the pizza. Six pans are available, all almost full. Three have actually freshly arrived. I take a piece of each, because I'm hungry at this point.
Not a single piece was hot. A couple were bordering on cold. The taste of four was okay at best, but I couldn't eat the taco pizza because of the pasty, tasteless taco meat and the sixth was just too cold.
I didn't go back for a fourth attempt. What was the point?
George's buffet was grossly mis-managed and the food quality was poor. I could have just said that to begin with but I wanted to justify my statement. The others in the group shared similar sentiments and the consensus as we headed to our cars was that we wouldn't be back. That's a shame because the food on the menu might actually be good. But the lack of care and pride that went into the buffet was enough to sour us from giving George's...
Read moreBad service accompanied by horrible food. Tonight was our 1st time trying this place. We ordered (I got the Alfredo, my husband the 10oz ribeye) to go. We get the bag they give me a salad that's brown and wilted, they forgot both our garlic breads, as well as the dressing for the salads and silverware, my husband's allergic to tomatoes so we asked for none on his salad they gave him them anyway. We were told that the salad only came with tomatoes and onions so we didn't request no cucumbers. We get home and my Alfredo had maybe 2-3 table spoons of sauce on it, very dry and what sauce was on it was like water very runny. Husband opened his food and this supposed 10oz ribeye was super them and 3/4 of it was straight fat. We decided to take them back. The young mixed girl was very nice and helpful along with being apologetic, the older lady behind the bar was very rude and refused a refund. My husband had to ask multiple times before she agreed. At that point a customer tells my husband not to go into the kitchen (he never did, he was literally standing next to the iTunes machine talkingto the waitress. ) the customer starts raising his voice and slamming his glass down. The reasoning we were giving for such horrible service was "its just two of us here working" the amount of staff should never have an effect on the customer service given. We were so excited to try this place. Unfortunately I'm not sure we will be back after this. I've never dealt with such rude staff and horribly bad food. We will be trying to...
Read morePros: Service is decent, as in server is helpful and friendly and patient. Prices are affordable, even for a budget. Salad and toppings for calizone was fresh. The red sauce is good. Not overly sweet or overly peppery and the spice to tomato ratio is good.
Cons: no one was at the door and no sign saying we couldn't, so we seated ourselves. A sign stating either way would be nice. No list of alcoholic beverages (not even a brief one) on the actual menu, but soft drinks, milk, and other drinks were. Calizone was a bit overdone, BUT not enough to be an issue. (Might want to turn the oven down 25 degrees and properly baste the crust with some garlic butter or oil.) Tea is basically water. Had to request a coke instead. (Coke was fine. Seltzer and syrup mix was balanced.) Cucumbers upset my stomach, so I couldn't eat the salad we got for an appetizer because they premade the salad with the cukes in it. Even the taste of them having been there is sickening so, no salad for me. Partner enjoyed it, regardless. Don't eat the salad if you cannot eat cucumbers!
If they tweak a few things, the place could be a really decent bar and restaurant. I actually liked the meal otherwise and am having...
