The first time my husband and I went to Jules of Inwood, we had a great experience. I canât say the same about our experience this evening, however.
I ordered what I ordered the first timeâa blast with banana, and a little peanut butter, a little caramel, and a little hot fudgeâwith the only difference today being I added all of that to a cheesecake blast instead of vanilla. I requested it exactly as I wrote it, even explaining I didnât want too much of any one thing because itâd overwhelm the small blast.
What I received was mostly the three sauces in an ice cream soup with banana garnish. The entire cup of ice cream was melted, not just the top, so on top of being inedible, it spilled everywhere. I tried to enjoy it but there wasnât a single bite that wasnât essentially milk.
When I took it up with me to talk to someone working the window, I was met with, at best, confusion and at worst, derision. The three employees explained I ordered hot sauces so, naturally, they melted the ice cream when added, not to mention the shack was hot soâŚice cream soup.
I said I understood the sauces were hot and that it would melt the ice cream, which is why I only ordered a little of each to mitigate that issue. No dice. They didnât offer to remake it, and we stared at each other for a few seconds before I said âOk then.â and throwing the ice cream soup in the trash as I walked away.
By providing the desired amount of each sauce in my order, explaining why I didnât want too much of any one sauce, and then producing the natural consequence of putting too much hot sauce on cold ice cream, I thought there would be some understanding of where it all went wrong. Instead, it felt very much like they thought me foolish for not understanding hot melts cold and then complaining about what they considered me getting exactly what I ordered. It was overall a really unpleasant experience, which is a shame as I enjoyed my...
Read moreFirst time here. It was really tasty! However the portions (I got the sundae) are huge. I donât want to feel ill from something thatâs supposed to be a treat, nor do I want to be wasteful. It was so big it melted before I even got 1/4 through. I had to throw the majority of it away and I donât like being wasteful, so throwing it away erased my joy of having the deliciousness! Itâs ice cream, so itâs not like I can just take home leftovers. The adults before me ordered cones, baby cones. I heard the person after me say âI shouldâve gotten a baby cone.â Please consider reducing your portion sizes. If all that is available to me here is a baby cone, Iâll likely not be back, delicious as it is. Based on what I heard from the customers before and after me, it seems like this is what your...
Read moreJules of Inwood is the dessert boss of the valley. I rolled up expecting a quick treat and walked away with a full-blown custard crusade. I got the Dirt Cupâwhipped cream piled high like a cloud throne, brownie chunks that hit like fudge meteors, gummy worms wriggling with nostalgia, and a cherry on top like a crown jewel. All for a price that feels like theyâre giving away joy by the spoonful.
The staff? Legends. Fast, friendly, and somehow always smiling like they know theyâre serving magic. No pretension, no delayâjust pure dessert hustle. You can tell they care, and that makes every bite taste better.
If youâre anywhere near Inwood and donât stop at Jules, youâre missing out on a local treasure thatâs part roadside stand, part sugar-fueled myth. Iâll be back....
