BAIT AND SWITCH PRICING!
Today was my first and last time at Pizza Oven. I called in an order for a 12" sausage pizza. The first menu that comes up online is the one on their Facebook page (see picture), which said the pizza was $7.99 plus $1.25 per topping. When I got there, I gave them my name and paid, and realized when looking at the receipt I was charged over $14.50 with tax. I showed the cashier my receipt and she basically said "oh, that's just the old menu online, here is our new one. Our owner hasn't changed the old one in forever, I keep telling him/her to." Not what every other business I have ever been in has done, which is "sorry, our mistake, let me refund the difference to you."
They didn't even honor their own price after I showed them! I could understand the mistake, but you don't get to charge the person the higher price when you made the mistake. Not only is that terrible business and by most people's standards stealing, it is illegal. If you don't believe me, look up WV section 46A-6-102 that deals with consumer protection laws and deceptive trade practices in the state. It is $200 per infraction (unless the party's damages were greater). This is Business Law I type stuff here that you can't advertise one price online (where most people will look for the price in 2024) then charge them 50% more after they already made the trip out there. No business owner should need to be told that false advertising is both illegal and just as cruddy as shorting people their change or overcharging their credit cards an invisible fee.
I wouldn't mind if it was $.79 over, but I would not have ordered a $14.56 12" pizza had I known the real price. This place has been "getting" every person who orders a to-go pizza for $4 for who knows how long. It's bad business, it's illegal, and it's insanely easy to fix. Two minutes and a cell phone camera and this could have been fixed (which is one reason why the penalties are so steep).
You may think I am being vindictive, but I am actually trying to help you here. As I noted above, you all can really get in a lot of...
Read moreEdit 11/2022: First, I'm aware inflation and skyrocketing costs are crushing the restaurant industry, not to mention nearly every restaurant is short staffed bc they either can't get people to work or they can't afford to pay the staff necessary to operate efficiently. My family came on a Wednesday for the pizza and salad buffet. I have three girls and two are under 6. It costs us $70 to eat. I believe the buffet is almost $15 now. Listen, I don't know how anyone affords to eat out these days.
We ate at the Pizza Oven for the first time a couple days ago. I was pleasantly surprised by their menu. There's a great variety of options available and I was pleased to see some healthy options too. We tried pizza first and enjoyed it. It appeared to be more of a pan-style thickness which we liked. I'd like to try a burger. The menu claims they are hand pattied. I hope they are and it's not just a frozen patty tossed on a flat top grill. We'll definitely be back. Edit: We've been back a few times. We were recently surprised by the game night. Not sure if it's a regular thing but I hope so. Our family had a wonderful time playing old retro board games and card games....
