I recently relocated from Dallas to Princeton and was quite disappointed with the lack of diverse vegetarian options at the local Indian restaurants. After trying a few places, which mostly offered Biryani and non-vegetarian appetizers, I was starting to lose hope. However, a friend recommended I give "Godavari" a shot.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Godavari, which had only been operational for four months, had an impressive menu selection, especially for vegetarian dishes. It takes courage for a newcomer to offer such a wide variety of veg options, but they seemed to have nailed it.
I decided to put their vegetarian selections to the test and ordered the Mango Tang Cauliflower Fry. To my delight, the dish was light, bursting with delicate flavors. Although it could have been spicier and transformed into a commercial fast-food snack, I appreciated that they refrained from doing so, making it a healthier and more enjoyable evening treat.
I decided to explore more vegetarian options on their menu. I tried the Crispy Corn, which was not overly spicy but had a light and enjoyable taste, perfect for an evening snack. Intrigued by their approach, I requested to meet the owner to inquire about their food choices.
To my surprise, the owner shared that their focus is on providing healthy food rather than just catering to commercial preferences. It was impressive to see a newcomer prioritize the well-being of their customers.
Encouraged by the owner, I opted for the full course combo, trying the "Raju Gari Pulao (veg)" and the Godavari Kadai Paneer with Chinta chiguru. Both dishes were delightful, and I was genuinely amazed by the high quality and deliciousness of their vegetarian offerings. The experience left me considering a vegetarian diet for a while, given the variety and taste they offered.
Later that night, I returned for dinner, seeking light snacks and something new to try. I ordered the South-Central combo (idly-vada) and Delhi Special Chole Bature. The flavors were rich and authentic, and it was evident that they didn't compromise on taste.
Overall, my experience at Godavari was exceptional. The restaurant's commitment to providing healthy and flavorful vegetarian options sets them apart in the industry. I am thoroughly impressed with their offerings and can confidently recommend Godavari to others looking for a delightful...
Read moreI had the pleasure of celebrating my friend's birthday at Godavari, a new restaurant that opened in March. As it was a BYOB establishment, we brought along some beers and a bottle of wine to enjoy during our evening.
Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately struck by the spaciousness of the hall and the pleasant lighting, which was complemented by attractive decorative lights. The ambiance was inviting and set the stage for a memorable dining experience.
We were warmly greeted by our waiter, Chandana, whose smile and demeanor made us feel welcome and at ease. Her friendly attitude created a sense of tranquility, reminiscent of a yoga class, and set a positive tone for the evening. Later, when we placed our second order, Bhavna took care of us with equal warmth and professionalism. Her attentive service added to the overall positive experience at Godavari.
To start our culinary journey, we indulged in a variety of appetizers including Gobi Manchurian, Egg Manchurian, Paneer 777, Egg Omelette, and Chilli Pakora. Each dish had a delightful South Indian touch that added an authentic flair. The Egg Omelette, in particular, had a captivating flavor that left me speechless. The Gobi and Egg Manchurian had a satisfying crunch on the outside and were incredibly delicious. Despite feeling satiated by the appetizers alone, we couldn't resist ordering more.
We decided to try the "ghee special upma," Veg Biryani, and yogurt rice. Accompanied by spicy and flavorful pickles, the upma was a standout with its delectable taste. According to my friends, the Veg Biryani was remarkably tasty, and the yogurt rice had a delightful seasoning with a twist of delicious peanuts.
We capped off our delightful dining experience at Godavari with a sweet treat: Gulab Jamun. This traditional Indian dessert was simply divine. The Gulab Jamun was moist, soft, and soaked in a fragrant syrup that enhanced its sweetness. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and it was the perfect ending to our meal. The dessert was truly delicious and added a delightful touch to our overall dining experience at Godavari.
Overall, the experience at Godavari was exceptional. The restaurant's ambiance was welcoming, the service provided by Chandana and Bhavna was outstanding, and the food was truly fantastic. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an authentic South Indian...
Read moreWe visited this place a few times and always had a great experience with food. The food here is delicious with some amazing Indian flavors. Last night we ordered Afghani Chicken Kebab, Telangana Mutton Curry with Garlic Naan , Gougnra Chicken Biryani and finally ended with Gajar Ka Halwa. To start off the Afghani Chicken Kebab was well cooked which made the chicken cubes juicy and delicious. The kebab was sizzling hot from the tandoor with slices of shredded veggies cabbage, carrot , capsicum & onions. The veggies as well tasted delicious by the charred flavor along with the sauces of the dish. The entree Telangana mutton curry and garlic naan were probably not one of the bests I had. I was expecting the Telangana curry to be more authentic with more bold spicy masala flavors in contrast to what we had tasted more on the sweet side ,which tasted more like a butter masala or tikka currys with the creamy texture which still had some spicy tinge to it. The mutton was well cooked and the curry overall was good but not the best. The garlic naan was okay as well, as I had better naan’s in other Indian places. The Goungura Chicken Biryani is the clear winner of all the dishes we had at Godavari so far. Usually when I have tried the gongura biryani in different Indian restaurants it always lacked in the gongura flavor. But the one at Godavari was really super deliciuous and it was bursting in gongura flavor which I have been longing forever. The biryani had the sourness of the gongura along with the perfect biryani spices and well cooked chicken pieces. Just a suggestion, It would have been even great if they have served the biryani with boiled egg. Gajar ka Halwa is a perfect ending to the whole meal. The halwa was not too sweet , it was rich in taste with ghee, milk , carrot , sugar and some nuts. The reason I am rating this place 5/5 even though after not all the dishes being 5/5 is just that the biryani was something that we have throughly enjoyed and hope this place keeps the quality and taste...
