Despite its good potential, our experience at this restaurant was quite disappointing. We traveled an hour to dine here, but unfortunately, our expectations were not met. We ordered the Ramadan whole chicken platter, but it was a letdown. Our dissatisfaction began with the ordering process as we had to wait for 10 minutes at the register before we could place our order. The person behind the counter seemed disorganized and did not acknowledge us, even though we were the only ones in line.
After placing our order, we waited for 35 minutes for our food to arrive, which is understandable for fresh food. However, the empanadas were terrible, with undercooked dough and bad-tasting meat. Even frozen empanadas would have been better. We didn't even finish one of the four empanadas that came with our order. We also ordered a side of rice, but it was undercooked and cold. The sauce was the only saving grace for the dish. Once our food was served, no one checked if everything was okay with our order. After waiting for an additional 10 minutes, the rice finally arrived, but it was both old and undercooked. We found it inedible and had to return it. The tea took 30 minutes to make.
The staff seemed disorganized, bringing wrong orders to tables and neglecting customers waiting in line to order. It was a completely...
ย ย ย Read moreI am a Chinese raised in West Africa so when I saw "Tribos" and Peri Peri I was expecting African food. Menu is largely middle eastern food and S.African/Portuguese but they sprinkle in some Indian (paneer and kulfi popcicles), some S.American (empanadas, although a lot of African countries have meat pies too), then there is Lizzy's ice cream. Suffice to say I was pleasantly surprised. Food itself, I only got lamb rice, falafel, pop-corn chicken this time. Everything was very well spiced/seasoned with great pricing (I suspect I got wrong portion for my popcorn chicken but I ordered appetizer $6.99 but got 15+ pieces. If this is their normal portion then that is amazing). I say dont go in expecting a specific ethnicity type of food and if you like your food well seasoned with great pricing, this is the place for you. I will go an again and explore their name-sake periperi chicken and I saw a paneer burger/sandwich. They have different level of spiciness and their extra hot is closer to real Indian food normal spiciness (i.e. hot but not hot to the level that its the only...
ย ย ย Read moreThis place seems to be very much inspired by Nando's Peri Peri, even down to the decor and sauces (and obviously the name). We were a party of seven, and we ordered chicken in three spicyness levels: lemon&herbs (i.e. not spicy), mild and medium. They were all delicious, but even the medium was not really spicy. We also had lamb chops, which were nice, but once they cool down, not as good. Nandos, as far as I remember, does not have lamb chops or burgers, which are available here. (And, of course, the closest Nando's is 350 miles away). Lamb chops are also quite expensive, so if you want them, eat them first. We tried six different sides, and each of us had their own favorite. In particular, Yucca fries were available, and these are quite rare (and delicious). An issue that I have notified the employees was the pricing: some of the larger offerings actually cost more than ordering separately. Hopefully they will fix that. Overall: stick to the chicken, and it will be quite cheap ($65+tax for two whole chickens and sides, which is plenty for 5-6 people)...
