Chillingham's Steak — Restaurant in Westerly

My daughter & Son in law brought me here for my birthday tonight and I have to say it was the BEST restaurant experience I have had in a long time! Walking into this steak house is an experience all on its own, it’s simple yet country down home feel was perfect! You don’t even hear the main downtown westerly hustle and bustle! The environment has great energy and is very peaceful! From the hostess to the server to the manager… everyone was so wonderful! They all were genuinely wicked nice, funny and welcoming! They had a bday card for me, which was over the top sincerely nice! We laughed, we joked and we ate some amazing steak! Finally a place that knows how to cook a steak! They definitely won me and my family over! Then they came out with this chocolate cake with a candle and our waiter sang. I have never felt so welcomed and appreciated as a customer before. Now the food…. I had the strip with baked potato, my daughter had the strip with sweet potato and my son in law had a steak with double fried fries. From first bite it was as if the room silenced and it was only me and my steak… I swear I had an out of body experience with that steak! It was pure food blissful peace! The app was also amazing, we had pork belly over this corn dish that made you want more and more! I did get greedy with the corn! Then the desert, that surprise chocolate cake…. Their desert chef out did herself! We shared it and I think we all took a moment to just BE with the cake. From frosting to the chips in it… fabulous experience! The manager came over twice to talk and joke around, which made it even better than it already was! The whole staff was amazing! We felt like family coming over on a Sunday night! My boyfriend and I had been here once before and loved it, so we decided to come here for Valentine’s Day too. I reserved about a week in advance and there options were 4pm and 8:45pm, so that’s a testament to how well-liked this restaurant is for special occasions 😊 When we arrived we were warmly greeted by the hostess and immediately brought to our table. When our server arrived she brought us complimentary champagne which was such a nice treat and made the experience feel special. She recommended the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Martini on the specials list and it did not disappoint. It tasted like strawberry milk with chocolate as she described, and was garnished with a chocolate covered strawberry. I had two 🥂 She took our order promptly and we had the mussels for an appetizer. They were delicious and the slightly spicy sauce pairs nicely with the mussels, just the right amount of spice. The steaks, of course, were amazing, and are their specialty. They’re right up with David Burke Prime quality-wise, if not surpassing them, and cooked to absolute perfection, every time. They have a caramelized texture on the outside and the inside is tender and perfect. The house potato pairs beautifully, it’s like a twice baked potato. We ended with dessert which was lovely. This was such a great evening and the Chillingham’s staff went above and beyond to make it feel special. Our waitress was efficient and friendly, and the food came out perfectly timed with hardly any waiting. Visited for the first time this past Friday and it definitely won’t be our last! I knew as soon as I entered the open door that we were going to have a nice evening. Great atmosphere and vibe. We really liked the casual upscale feel. It’s nice to find a restaurant that serves great high end food but is not pretentious. Our server Shannon, provided excellent service and had a very friendly and engaging demeanor. The meal was excellent from start to finish. My husband really enjoyed the oversized oysters on the appetizer menu. His salmon was perfectly prepared and the tomato and caper beurre blanc was outstanding. I loved the prime rib and loaded potato that was a weekend only menu item. It’s going to be really difficult for me to try something else on the menu after having that! The beef was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The au jus was also tasty. The side salads that came with the meal were definitely not your run of the mill standard. The composed plate made for a very nice presentation and included grape tomatoes, cucumber slices and red onion along with the romaine. The house made blue cheese dressing was delicious and very fresh. We were too full to have dessert there but we ordered a tiramisu cheesecake to take home for later that evening.
