My most recent visit was for my birthday. My husband surprised me by arriving here and we met up with our friends. The restaurant is done in a Irish Pub theme with Gaelic sayings and a beautiful bar along one wall. They easily accommodated our party of 10 in a combination booth/seats area.

The waitress was prompt and easily reviewed all the beer options for my picker friends. She was also patient as we spent more time chatting than deciding what to eat. She went over the specials while standing at one end of the table and then came around to the other end and repeated them without an issue. I think she did it intentionally to make sure everyone could hear. Most places the waitress stands on the end and the people on the far ends never get to hear them. She also made a point to ask up front who would be on what check, so there was no confusion at the end.

I had the Bangers and Mash. I love the flavor that they put into the sausages. And the mash is perfect. All the food came out hot and in a timely manner. Everyone liked their orders. To be honest I wasn't really paying attention to what they got. The waitress did a great job of making sure glasses were refilled but never just assumed. She always asked which I appreciated because some friends like to switch out to water or have coffee.

My friends surprised me with a cake (one friend is a baker), which the staff had hidden in the back. After I blew out the candles the waitress offered to take the cake into the kitchen and have cooks cut it for us. This was such a win. Once everyone was served she brought the rest of the cake out, in the box, for me to take home.

We never felt rushed or like we needed to move on - like some restaurants do. The waitress kept checking on us to see if we needed coffee or tea - but never so much that it felt like she was hovering.

I know this sounds a bit over the top but I've eaten here several times prior to the party and it truly is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always stunning and presented beautifully, the staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is...

My friend and I were there last week, we got there at 7pm, in 4 hours I had 4 Margaritas plus food, I believe my friend had 5…anyway over a period of 4 hours plus we ordered 2 apps (the calamari was amazing and that’s my 3 stars) we closed our $109 tab PLUS tip at 11:15pm. We decided we each wanted 1 more and the bartender wouldn’t serve us. She said she was worried about the 4 drinks I had in the 4 hours! We were very polite the whole time, we stayed on the barstools except to use the bathrooms, we weren’t drunk and/or wild and crazy! I watched her serve 2 carbombs plus beers to the guy next to us in less than an hour! She didn’t like that I said that to her because she threw up her hand and walked away. We we barely even tipsy let alone drunk! I guess after she got the tip she was ok with that and didn’t care to serve us anymore. Maybe we were too slow and taking up space who knows, but I sure know we weren’t drunk in any means to be cut off. We were having fun talking to the other patrons and listening to the karaoke. I made sure to tell my friends and write this review. We walked down to the Malted Barley and got our 1 more drink without a problem. Sadly she ruined our experience there. Won’t...

I've been to The Hen twice, once when it first opened and again just before Christmas 2019. I wasn't impressed years ago and even less impressed now. My daughter had the fish and chips and was pleased (she's very fussy about food), my son in law had shepherds pie and loved it (however, he would love an old boot if you put gravy on it), at my daughter's recommendation I had chicken wings and the "special" waffle fries. Shortly after ordering I went outside and passed a tray that appeared to be our order. Coming back inside 5 minutes later, I passed the same tray still sitting there. When the waiter finally delivered our food, the fries were, of course, cold. They were nothing special, even with the sauce. The wings were equally disappointing as the didn't have much flavor and not very meaty. The stars I gave it were for the drink, a salted caramel type martini...very tasty. I would return to The Hen only for the...

My wife and I were checking out Westerly on a chilly April day and happened on the restaurant for a late lunch. Little did we know that we'd be having some delicious food. I got the French dip. I've been looking for a place in southeast Connecticut that had a good French dip and haven't been able to find one. Well, this one has great cuts of beef, and the au jus sauce was divine. I think they soaked the inside of the hoagie with the sauce yet browned the crust so it was still crunchy. The fries were nice and thick yet super crunchy. For me it was A+. My wife got poutine. The cheese gushed with gooeyness and was melted vice curds which was actually a nice addition. The gravy was a chicken stock that was thick and a nice balance to the crisp fries. Very delicious. If you're looking for a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner I highly recommend it.

Server was polite and friendly. Waited a little longer than expected for 2 sandwiches. Fries were good. Pastrami sandwich was too greasy for me....maybe fried the rye bread. Unfortunately my husband's corned beef sandwich was inedible. He couldn't even bite through the sandwich because of the fat and how rubbery it was. I ended up sharing mine. The server offered him another meal but he'd already had mine and we didn't want to wait around. I will say she was gracious enough for us to not pay for his which I appreciate because not everywhere would do that. It's a nice place, good service but the food let it down and no refill offered on soda.

Was not a memorable evening unfortunately. Have dined here before with better experiences. Food service was slow in coming. We sat at 530 and finished after 7pm. There were not many people when we arrived and far from full when we finished for a Saturday night. Food was OK though a little uninspired. Nothing bad as such but no one (of 7) had much to say. Mensroom was unpleasant. Lock not functioning and sink clogged with some nastiness (both on arrival and departure). It's a good location and I know it can do better. Street parking is limited but the YMCA lot is large and empty. Just a short walk up high st.
