We have been to this restaurant a few times. Unfortunately, the experience is not what it use to be. The food was average at best and the dinner was actually cool to the touch when served (Scallops and Risotto - not so good cold). Also, we had what was supposed to be vinegar cake which ended up being a slice of regular chocolate (extremely dry) cake. I will say our bartender/ server was awesome. I told him after about the cold dinner and the dry cake and let him know we were not looking for a refund or discount - we just wanted to make him aware of our less than perfect experience. He was very apologetic and provided us with a couple of tokens for a free drink. I then saw him talk to the whom I believe was the manager to let him know about our experience. Here is the kicker. The manager looked over at us, shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Never came over to apologize or provide us with the reassurance that it would not happen again. You could see he could have cared less. So next time we go to the area to have a $ 300.00+ dinner/ night out - The Cafe will not be the place we will be spending our time/ money. I realize everyone has a bad night and things can go bad quickly in a restaurant setting - however when the management doesn't care, why would the employees working for him care. Extremely bad example for sure. Owner may want to take note. It is all about the service and experience. My suggestion - find...
Read moreHello all, sunday the 10th of April i took my wife out to eat for our anniversary, i was looking for some place nice that had gluten free options as well as a more upscale attmostpher. We put on our nicer attire, and hit downtown westerly. First impression, walk through these beautiful wooden doors to welcoming faces and the nicest 2 ladies ready to seat you. Low lighting and dark calm relaxing environment already very nice. If you have the option of sitting near that indoor fireplace (gas) do it. What an added bonus to such a lovely night. Now for what you all probably wanted to know.. Words could not truely describe the flavors of the food that we got. Hands down the best gluten free food I've ever tasted let alone had at a resurant. The pasta dish I had (gf pasta) was exceptional what a lovely blend of flavor with the basil. And kielbasa wow. What a great meal. If you arnt drooling just yet heres what my wife got. And yes also gf.. this bacon wrapped meatloaf was honestly to die for, with the side of diced potatoes and eggplant was surprisingly delicious. Oh and how could I forget we also got apps. And those can not go with out mention. BACON infused deviled eggs. With this glaze on the bacon that was just out of this world. I could not think of a single reason between staff and cooks and ambiance why this restaurant shouldn't be your next stop. You will be...
Read moreI've been meaning to write this review since I ate at The Cafe on Oct. 16. I was spending the day meandering around Watch Hill and Westerly and really just wandered into The Cafe on a whim. Steve Corrigan was doing hosting duties and showed me the menu, which looked promising.
Cut to the chase: The food was great (yummy bacon burger with fries) and the beer was local, cold and delicious. The service was super and everyone was friendly and welcoming. If I lived in Westerly, or anywhere in southern Rhode Island, I'd be here all the time. It would be fun to sit at that huge bar and chat with friends over a drink.
The Cafe is part of an arts complex that includes the United Theatre next door (three screens), a gallery and a performance rehearsal space downstairs. Rhode Island's NPR network has a small studio there also. It's an impressive arts center that is helping to give downtown Westerly a boost.
It was fun talking to Steve about everything that is going on here and getting a tour. Thanks!
Highly...
