I've heard a lot about Bray's over the years but since I don't live on this side of town, I haven't had a chance to try them out. Since I was here for an event on Saturday, I thought, why not, let's go check them out.
When I pulled in, I wasn't even sure if the lobby was open. It was a Saturday evening and there was two cars here and the inside looked empty. Not a promising sign. Walking up to the door they had a sign posted saying there's no waitstaff and I'd have to order at the carryout area and then they'd bring my order to me.
The inside was clean, but again, it was just me in the dining area. Weird. I approached the counter and the young men working were very busy manning the drive through. I scoured the menu and went with the two cheeseburger combo which came with fries and a drink. Yet another sign at the register stated no drink refills are allowed. So many rules! LOL.
Anyway, service was quick and the staff was friendly, so that's a bonus. I sat myself at a table and waited. Eventually my food came out, and I liked what I saw. The burgers themselves were good, but there were a few hiccups. For starters, the ketchup at my table was empty. I took the bottle to the counter and left it there for them to refill and went to grab another one off the table. Second bottle from another table was empty as well. The third table didn't even have Ketchup. I finally found one at the bar area and moseyed my way back to my food.
Now that the ketchup situation was handled, I dug into my food. Went to get a sip of my Dr. Pepper and it was literally WARM. At this point, I was so irritated that the thought of running back up to get more was just aggravating. I don't know if they put the pop on the grill, or what but it tasted like it had either been sitting out for a while or something. Very irritating.
Overall it was a mediocre at best experience. I think I would have been more furious if I had done the drive through and gotten home to find this all out. The place seems like it has to many hiccups and that the staff seemed a bit overworked. They could do better and hire a few more staff for the grill area to ease the stress of the staff. I know the ketchup situation is minor in the scheme of things, but restaurants don't run themselves. The dining area's basically ignored and condiments are running low or out all together. Do better Bray's, you need to do something besides let a bunch of teenagers run amuck in the kitchen and maintain your...
Read moreTook me a minute to find out if they were open or not, because the building was so dimly lit inside and the parking lot was pitch black. Just so you know, they do have normal-ish hours, so if it looks dark and dead in there, they probably are open.
My mom and I got some burgers and fries. That's really all they have. Which was fine, but would have been nice to know we had other options after taking a bite of the burgers. I hate wasting money on food. I don't mind spending it on good food, who does? But when you don't finish the majority of your meal, and it was mediocre at best, you tend to leave with a sour taste in your mouth. And not just from the food.
My mom didn't like the fries but the fries were fine, in my opinion. The bun was kind of soggy on the burger, but then the other part was dry and tasted funny. And do people actually like this many onions in one bite?
I'm hesitant to downtalk this establishment because the people in Westland are going to come for me. It's well known that this is a well-loved business in the area and it's been there forever. So they must be doing something right. I just can't figure out what it is...
I could have went to Culver's down the street for practically the same price, got a bigger burger, better quality, and more to eat. The burgers were really small and there was a lot of bun overhanging the burger, so that 25% of the mouthfuls were bread.
It's been years since I'd been there, so I was really excited, because I wanted to like this place. But after spending $21 on a measly, greasy meal such as this (two burgers and two fries) I can't say that I'll be running back anytime soon to give...
Read moreI am severely disappointed with this business . I have come on two separate occasions and they were closed both times . The first time was during their “summer break “ which I guess is fine but it makes for bad business closing right in the midst of summer . They could run reduced hours or close for the weekends for the staff , but being closed for weeks is not a good look . Nor is it appealing to a first time customer like myself , total turn off . The second time was today , and according to their posted hours and when they said they’d be closed , there is absolutely zero reason why they were closed today . At the very least they sure didn’t indicate it anywhere that they would be . On their signs they did not have today designated as one of their closed days so I’m really not sure what the issue is with their ownership . Either stick to your hours OR ensure that it is clear to all that you’ll be closed for days in addition to the ones you said you’d be closed . The worst part about this is one of my clients from my business recommended this place to me , he raved about it . I’m quite pissed at having gone here twice while hungry only to find them closed . Bad business and I will not be back to waste my time a third time . I was honestly looking forward to trying it based on what my client said but nope...
