I would not recommend this place for a couple of reasons, most definitely if you would be dining in with children. The man who served our table is not very personable. He told me very firmly and confidently that the restaurant was closed and it was 2:25 pm. when he said that. It is a Saturday and i called yesterday to ask about the lunch buffet hours. He specifically stated it was open until 3 on Saturday and Sunday. The person today seemed to think otherwise and rudely rushed my family of five out. When he said that, i told my children to gather their coats and let’s go because they were suddenly “not hungry anymore.” It was very unappealing that he did that. Additionally i had 4 minors, two in their teens and the two youngest being 7 and 8. I was charged for 4 adults and 1 child. I asked What the age limits were and he acted like he didn’t understand what i was saying even after i heard him have a couple of phone conversations/orders in English over the phone. When i asked about the pricing he just repeated the words “closed now” a couple of times. So weird and not ok!!! I was with my family and they had never been to an Indian restaurant before. I work near another Indian restaurant that is absolutely great in service and food and i sometimes bring them takeout from the buffet there. They love it and were so excited to visit this place here in North Denver near where we live. They were so excited for me to get off work to take them, hence the call the day prior to confirm your online hours. Also, the same waiter was not very kind to a Spanish speaking worker, and even telling him to “run” a couple of times in front of the customers. What??? Not cool. My kids saw that and i dont teach them to treat people like that. And then after he asked us to leave, a couple came in with a child and were seated!!! I do not speak the language that they spoke but the waiter and this family spoke the same tongue. Is that why they were given preference and allowed to enter at 2:30 and stay even though my family was rudely rushed out and I had to reassure my children it was ok to finish their plates, though they chose not to? And to be honest, the food was just meh. The saag paneer, which is my favorite dish, was the worst I’ve had. Hey if you guys hadn’t treated my family so poorly, the world wouldn’t have to hear that i think it’s so bad but you obviously went out of your way to make my kids and i feel uncomfortable so I’m just going to be brutally honest with what i think about your offerings. The sour taste from the terrible service could have had something to do with that however. The carrot pudding was interesting and the first time i have had it, enjoyed trying it until the service really took a dive. If you want really, truly good Indian food and to be treated with dignity, drive to Louisville and visit Taj Majal. The food is amazing and the owner is very kind and service oriented. The buffet has fewer options but is by far superior in quality and taste. They also treat their Spanish speaking kitchen crew with respect, many of whom are my own customers. Never returning to “the Jewel of India”. Peace to...
Read moreHello! I enjoy coming to Jewel of India for dinner, and sometimes lunch. However, I have a few suggestions for you to consider from a customer like me, as well as many others that I speak to regularly. Please consider addressing these for the betterment of the restaurant, and to keep business growing. It is important.
Fix your music speaker system. It is scratchy and annoying for diners. Please change the music that you have now. It is somewhat sad and depressing. We would suggest that you go back to Indian music or at least have some nice jazz music that everyone can appreciate. No one likes to be melancholy while they’re eating. Please improve the bathroom. The men’s bathroom has lots of dirt and stains on the door and walls. Why not a fresh coat of paint and perhaps some an uplifting photo or two inside? Same with the floor. A dirty bathroom can reflect a dirty kitchen in the minds of diners. This is an easy and inexpensive fix. The food is generally good, but there is an impression that some of it is rehashed from prior days. The lettuce salad is sometimes quite old. Consider changing lettuce to mixed greens, which are more nutritious and appreciated. Also, increase the number of tomatoes and other vegetables to make this a real salad, not just something that’s thrown in. You have recently handed out 10% discount cards. However, when I look on the website for the buffet, the price is the same. In other words, you are not actually giving a discount. This is unethical and should be changed. Please give actual discounts when promised.
We would also like to see you improve the naan. It really is a minimum effort to heat up some clearly frozen white bread. Choose another brand to improve the quality and present it with somewhat more butter and in a more lively way. It tastes like cardboard and is really not appreciated.
The people who work there are very friendly, and I would not change anything. The above are only suggestions, but Jewel of India is becoming tired in the minds of diners. You do not want this! Please strongly consider making the changes above, and I and others will spread the word amongst the companies where we work and encourage more people to come. Otherwise, there are too many other choices, and no one wants to think of Jewel of India as a restaurant that exists in the past, reaching its top a few years ago. Move it from being tired to being innovative, and ever-changing. Also, consider altering the buffet a bit more, perhaps including lamb occasionally or other interesting vegetable dishes. Stagnation is how restaurants slowly go out of business.
I will look forward to seeing these changes in the very near future. Thank you...
Read moreI ate here last night and the food quality seems to be going downhill. The Masala sauce seems to taste watered down and is quite bland now. The Naan bread was oily when it came out. (Also no papadam with the chutneys. What happened to that?) Not sure if they changed Chef's or what happened but their food used to have a very rich and traditional Indian flavor to it. I had a similar experience here a couple months ago and just figured maybe it was just an off night but after eating there last night I decided I have to change my review. My previous review is below and I am hoping that they read these and get back to making the high quality products that they had before. I know times are tough economically and certain cuts have to be made to stay in business but I would be willing to pay a bit extra for the quality and the true rich flavor that Indian food is known for and not be served something that tastes "Watered down". I will still visit from time to time as the staff and facility is very nice but if the food quality continues to go down I will eventually not return.
(Previous review here. Was 5 stars.) Best Indian food in town! Chicken tikka masala is the yumness! Samosas, Meat or vegetable? Yes please I'll have both! Mango lassi! Oh yea! Naan bread? Yep! Get that too! They have a few varieties of it! Always have enough to take home and have it again the next day! Great staff! ...
