There aren't many better values in Orange County when it comes to Vietnamese food. For my dine-in experience, I absolutely loved that I only had 6 choices of dishes to order from- there are 3 variants of Banh Mi, the priciest costing I think $6.95 at max, and then for a larger appetite, you have 3 meal-size cast iron skillet items- Crispy Pork with rice, Steak and Shrimp w/ Rice, or Baguette Bread with Steak, where you dip the bread into the delicious sauce of the skillet. Everything looked good, and you can generally be sure that the less items on a menu, the more that they can execute those items well.
My experience was as such: -Walked in, got free delicious iced tea from a dispenser on a table in the middle of the restaurant -Ordered the Steak+ Bread skillet, portion size was perfect. This was plenty of food, the steak was nice and tender (able to be cut with a dinner knife!), and the flavor was spot on -Price of the skillet: $12.95 (it's less if you order to-go) -When checking out, I was presented with a tip screen that started at 5% and went up to 15%. Pretty crazy thing to see in today's day and age, when a restaurant prioritizes its customers and is generous rather than greedy! Naturally I left 15% to reward their value and generosity
In a time when many restaurants seem to want to keep "price hiking" and squeezing customers with higher suggested tips and subsequent guilt trips, smaller portions, and an overall worse experience, I was pleasantly surprised with how generous Lac Viet was, both in terms of their pricing, portions, and tip policy, let alone the complimentary Iced Tea!
Highly recommend supporting them, they really are a diamond in the rough in the modern...
Read moreWhen you walk in, most of the workers are on the younger side, and they automatically assume that every young person speaks English. Honestly, it’s disappointing that they assume parents aren’t teaching their children their native language or cultural traditions.
Service is lacking. They only give you tea by default, even to kids, without asking what you’d like to drink. The menu is also very limited, with only two real options: cơm tấm and bánh mì. The food quality is inconsistent, and portions are unevenly distributed. One plate of cơm tấm had four pieces of meat, while another had only three. There were also other inconsistencies in the dish.
For the bánh mì, the meat is cut too thick, making it tough and difficult to chew. Plus, they only include one small meatball. The baguette itself is very small compared to the amount of meat inside, which throws off the balance.
If you order to-go, expect even more inconsistencies. The cơm tấm will come with only two types of meat, and they won’t include eggs or chilies for your sauce, even if you ask. The bánh mì portion is even smaller than what you get when dining in. Instead of a full steak, the meat is cut into small squares, giving you even less than what should be expected.
Overall, be aware of the inconsistencies at this place, both in portion sizes and quality. It’s frustrating to receive different amounts of food depending on whether you dine in or...
Read moreBeen trying this place for a few months now. They have beautiful packaging, and almost unbelievably generous pricing. They make great food and have a simple but nice menu! I had a banh mi heo quay for the first time today. It was a 9.5/10. This particular banh mi was so stupid good I was shocked the whole time munching on it while driving home. It is incredible and perhaps the top two best banh mi I’ve ever had outside of dac biet.
Bread delicious, heo quay crispy and flavorful, sauces crazy good, veggies fresh and yummy compliments. They held nothing back for that banh mi. Panini pressed is my guess. Crisp 🤤
Also ate the thit nuong banh mi. Maybe 8/10. Still very yum and...
