Being from the Southwest and now living on the South Shore of Massachusetts, I have high expectations of Mexican food and not a lot of options. I want fresh ingredients, delicious and flavorful seasoning, and good ambience that promotes the standards and quality of an authentic establishment, that will hopefully bring me back around. I am looking for that diamond in the rough that will take me back to the tastes and setting of my home state of Arizona. So, after a few recommendations, and a mail insert, we decided to give Sombrero's a chance...

We went for lunch as they were just opening on a Tuesday afternoon. Upon walking in, I understood immediately that the bar aspect of this place was probably the big money maker. It is front and center. But going to a bar scene in the afternoon, it didn't seem to hold too much appeal to me. Maybe when the lights are low it might feel more atmospheric, however in the daylight...it didn't impress. And on a completely different, yet important note, the smell as we walked in smelled like cat litter...not something you want to encounter at a restaurant. I was REALLY confused and concerned about this. However, I did sit down and give it all a try...though I was a bit worried.

The servers were very quiet, I wasn't sure if they were new or that we were just too early for them to get into their groove. I just didn't feel super welcomed or informed. Tough call on this one, I'd have to go back when they are busy to really see how the service handles.

My favorite point was that they make the guacamole right in front of you, so you can cater it to your own tastes. We like things a bit spicy, so we asked to have more jalapeno added. It was delicious, but keep in mind to tip the server who makes it. Something we were not prepared for.

Now onto the entrees. They were massive. They could have easily fed two people, possibly even three. We ordered the house burritos with shredded chicken and rice and beans on the side. As expected here in most New England Mexican food restaurants, the rice was basic and the beans were pretty runny. Not much flavor to either (my sister commented that they tasted a bit like cardboard) The burrito did have more flavoring than the others but it came off mostly as a chicken wrap with a bit of beans and cheese. Not a very exciting meal. I can't say that I'm surprised though. I will say that I did not try their margaritas, perhaps that could have been a better selling point, but I'm pretty picky about those as well, no margarita mixer for me, I'd like real juiced limes only.

I might give this place another try during dinner hours, but I will have to continue my search for true authentic Mexican food and Southwest ambience on the South Shore. You were better than most other Mexican food restaurants, that I'll say. But it was still too far from what I was hoping for. So close to home...

When I entered into the restaurant A short stocky Latino man greeted me with " where closing soon and was hoping I would leave by his rude tone. But I stayed because I was hungry and I am a paying customer who needs service and closing time wasn't for half hour. I think he should retire because he clearly is burnout from the pandemic and maybe he should get a customer attitude face lift or maybe he should have a strong Margarita 🍹 🤔 to help him relax and have a hospitable smile on his face when the paying public walks into the establishments front door. Sorryyyyy....but I have been in the customer service field for 20 years directly and non-directly dealing with the public And when I come across a person like this he needs to be addressed immediately because he represents the company directly. Greeting walk in customer's for a restaurant and also I assume he picks up the phone as well. He is not representing his hospitality business in any way that is good. Furthermore, after I was seated it took about 15 to 20 minutes for the waitress to come and serve me after I saw her behind the curtain sipping on her late night cap... end of shift glass of wine which was unprofessional. Do I really need to say more. I really wonder if Covid-19 ruined the businesses around the world or they use this as an excuse. BOTTOM LINE....

BE GRATEFUL TO WORK AND IF YOU ARE PHYSICALLY...EMOTIONALLY...FINANCIALLY AND SPIRITUALLY NOT ABLE TO DO YOUR JOB THEN JUST STAY HOME AND HIRE ANOTHER PERSON WHO REALLY CARES AND NEEDS A JOB WORK...

Food: Tortilla chips with salsa and guac; fried ice cream; Fajita tacos (with SHRIMP, onions, bell peppers, shredded cheddar cheese with a side of mexican rice and REFRIED BEANS) Disclaimer: This exact meal is not on the menu, but you can request it.

Ambiance: Casual, spacious, dim lit, and homey venue. Parking: Parking lot is available Pricing: Fair Food (flavors): The tortilla chips were okay. I wasn't a fan of the salsa because it was too spicy for me. The guac was pretty standard and appeared to be homemade. The shrimp fajita tacos were so good. The shrimp were cooked to perfection, and the onions peppers had a little crunch to them which I liked. The shrimp were cooked in a sauce that gave the taco a savory flavor; it wasn't overly salty. The mexican rice was also super flavorful and savory and really enjoyable. The refried beans were good as well and weren't overly salty. The refried ice cream was also really good, the outer shell was made of fried cornflakes. The cornflakes didn't get soggy while I ate the desert, and the ice cream stayed firm/didn't melt quickly while I ate it. I would've loved if there was more caramel drizzled on the ice cream because I have a serious sweet tooth, but it was a good desert. Portion size: Large

Great food and service. Went with my mother who has an affinity to judge food , she was happy with the food and the quality. We had asked our server any recommendations beyond what we had gotten and he gave us some options! Which I’m def gonna try when we go there next time. You def want to time when you go. We went around 3:30pm by then it was pretty slow as most people haven’t gotten out of work and it’s not exactly time for dinner. Parking is great it’s part of a small plaza of businesses.

Went in a slow night (holiday weekend). The restaurant was very clean and had a nice atmosphere with cool designs. The staff was very courteous and pleasant. However, they are getting only 3 stars because of the food. The food was delivered in a record fast time (like unreal fast) but my enchiladas came out on a hot plate but the inside meat was almost like room temperature. My fellow dinner mate got a quesadilla and the tortilla was soaked/soggy with oil.
