I used to love De La Paz, but the last time I went with my sister, we were treated very poorly by the staff. It started when we walked in the door, as no one seemed to want to greet us. No problem - we both work in restaurants, so we are very patient about these things. The host comes to get us, and, in a mostly empty restaurant, walks us directly towards a wobbly 4-top table DIRECTLY in front of the bathrooms. I mean, the door was less than 5 feet from our table. I said, "hey, is there somewhere else we could sit?" (something I have never asked in a restaurant before) and were met with a blank stare and a head shake. I honestly thought the guy was kidding, but he just kept staring at me while I stared back, so we sat down? At this point, I felt like I'd been part of a stand-off, and was a little pissed about his unwillingness to move us to a different table. We persist, and now the server is glaring at us every time he comes to ask if we are ready to order, which is approximately every 3 minutes. We ordered a pitcher of house margaritas and our food. Our water glasses sat empty for 80% of the time we were there, and I am not sure the margaritas had any tequila in them at all. I mean that literally, as I have bartended for years - there MAY have been 2 oz of tequila in the entire pitcher. The food was fine. Our server blatantly ignored us (walking past us sitting with empty glasses to go to tables around us) and did not speak to us again until we cashed out, at which point he was very friendly and told us to have a good day. Like I said before, my sister and I are both in food service, are under 30 years old (not angry boomers), and are incredibly polite to service workers. I cannot imagine what we did upon arrival to make the following experience so miserable, but it surely was. Especially when eating out is so expensive, I suggest you spend your...
Read moreNot only was the food overcooked (my kids chicken actually looked burnt), but they used too much seasoning (likely to cover the poor preparation).
But the cake-topper was someone (who I believe to have been the manager) came to my table after I had started to cut up my burrito and YANKED the fork out of my hand and took my food away, saying he gave me the wrong order. I ordered a lunch special #2, and I had already begun cutting up the food with the fork I was using. I told him it was fine—a burrito is a burrito. But he just walked away. He came back with a much smaller burrito plate and left abruptly—without even replacing my utensils. Now, it made sense. The burrito plate I had gotten was the one that was 3 or 4 dollars more than the one I had ordered. Logic gives 2 possible reasons he was so rude in doing this:
He would have not gone out of the way to throw away a more expensive meal that they gave me by mistake (after I insisted it was fine—I was even willing to pay the difference) unless he was planning to give some other patron the plate that I had already put my fork in.
OR
He was just being petty by throwing away the food because I had ordered a cheaper dish and he didn’t want me eating something a couple of bucks more at their mistake.
Either way, it was dumb and it totally ruined lunch out with my family because it took them a while to bring out the replacement to the point where my kids were falling asleep waiting. I won’t be returning to that place. Seriously, Taco Bell has better...
Read moreAfter reviewing the reviews of all three Mexican restaurants in the area and finding reviews saying ‘go to De La Paz instead’ we decided to try this place. We ordered take-out. The food was delicious! The chicken in the chicken chimichanga is actually seasoned, so you get more depth of flavor than some of the other Mexican restaurants my husband and I have been to. The Salsa and Chips included in our order were also excellent. The Chips aren’t too oily and the salsa is slightly sweet with a little heat. Very nice! I ordered the Camerones Calientes (spicy shrimp) and they really meant Caliente! Despite my mouth being on fire it was delicious and maybe when I have a whole gallon of milk to myself I’ll try ordering it again. We’ll...
